Thirty years of dedication to remembrance, local history, and community care, and now a very well-deserved MBE. πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰

We're delighted to share that long-time Festival of Archaeology event organiser Denis Kenyon has been awarded an MBE for services to war commemoration in the New Year Honours.

Denis has spent decades championing local history and remembrance in Leicestershire, from leading the Hallaton in the Great War project and award-winning exhibitions, to rescuing and researching war memorials so the stories behind the names are never lost. His work is rooted in care, collaboration, and a deep belief that history matters to communities today.

For us at the CBA, Denis is also a familiar and much-valued face. He’s been a committed Festival of Archaeology event organiser for many years, joining early evaluation conversations and acting as a fantastic ambassador for grassroots archaeology. More importantly, he’s a genuinely kind, thoughtful, and generous person to collaborate with.

Huge congratulations, Denis, and thank you for everything you’ve given to the Festival of Archaeology, remembrance, and your community.

The At Risk War Memorials Project is still on a quest to locate a special piece of history: a combined Roll of Honour and War Memorial to the members of the Leicester Dyers & Scourers Trade Society. This unique memorial was once displayed as an oil painting postcard in the Horse & Jockey pub on Northgate Street, the union’s headquarters, before the pub closed its doors in 1956. The above information has been discovered by Finn Cadell.

If you have any information on the whereabouts of this original memorial or know someone who might, we would love to hear from you! Every little detail could help us in our search.

Please comment below, share or send us a message if you have any leads. Let’s work together to preserve our local history! πŸ™
