We've been collaborating with artist Hwa Young Jung and local Year 6 children to create a brilliant free teacher resource exploring art, science and the outdoors ๐ŸŒฟ

'A Fab Friendโ€™s Guide to Gift Giving' encourages children to connect with local wildlife and green spaces through creativity, fieldwork and hands-on making. ๐Ÿ’š It prompts you to head outdoors and explore local habitats with curiosity, noticing different environments, listening to surrounding sounds and discovering the insects that live there. Youโ€™re invited to create sculptures inspired by the creatures you encounter.

Happy Birthday to us! ๐ŸŽˆ๐ŸŽ‚๐ŸŽ

Tate Liverpool opened on 24 May 1988. In 1985, James Stirling was commissioned to design the gallery, which was originally called โ€˜Tate of the Northโ€™. The transformation turned the disused 19th century buildings on the Royal Albert Dock Liverpool into simple but elegant spaces for art.

We had a makeover in 1997/8 and 2006 and now our original site on the Dock is temporarily closed to complete an incredible refurbishment which will see more open plan spaces for art, communities and families, more magnificent views over Liverpoolโ€™s iconic Waterfront and significant improvement of environmental standards and thermal performance.

''I knew once the tower was covered up, it would start to leave peopleโ€™s minds. I was determined that it never be forgotten.'' - Steve McQueen

In December 2017, artist and filmmaker Steve McQueen made an artwork in response to the fire that took place earlier that year on 14 June at Grenfell Tower in North Kensington, West London. 72 people died in the tragedy. Filming the tower before it was covered with hoarding, McQueen sought to create a record.

โ€˜Grenfellโ€™ by Steve McQueen is now presented at the Bluecoat from 16 May to 21 June 2026. https://bit.ly/41xVsGe

This national tour is being coordinated by Tate in collaboration with the partner venues and is made possible thanks to support using public funding by the National Lottery through Arts Council England and from Art Fund. Grenfell in Liverpool is a co-production by Tate Liverpool and the Bluecoat.
