🎞️ THE KEEP (35mm) 🎞️

🎞️ Michael Mann’s visually arresting cult horror brings ancient evil, wartime brutality and Tangerine Dream’s haunting electronic score to the big screen on 35mm.

🎞️ During the Second World War, a group of German soldiers occupies an isolated stone fortress in the Carpathian Mountains. When two soldiers attempt to steal the mysterious silver crosses embedded in its walls, they unwittingly release a powerful presence from deep within the building.

🎞️ On the first Monday of every month, FACT presents a specially selected 35mm film. Look closely, and you’ll see the grain, flicker and occasional imperfections of a print that has been preserved, handled and enjoyed by audiences over time.

As part of our Black History Month programme, discover AFRICAN JIM (1949), a film that follows a young man who leaves his rural home for Johannesburg in search of work. After a difficult introduction to city life, Jim finds opportunity through music when he meets nightclub singer Dolly, played by legendary South African jazz musician and activist Dolly Rathebe in her screen debut.

The film will be followed by a discussion with film curator and founder of Cinema Africa! at Hyde Park Picture House Mosa Mpetha, exploring its creation, context and legacy.

This weekend, visit three free exhibitions across our galleries!

💜 This is •~TUA~• 大眼 •~MAK~• by Rae-Yen Song 宋瑞渊. The gallery is transformed into a darkened abyss, suspended somewhere between the deep sea and the skies above. Moving through this landscape, Rae-Yen invites us to reconsider our connections to ecosystems, ancestors, and the cosmos around us.

💚 This is LOCAL SUPERSTAR II by Seema Mattu. The exhibition follows the formation of Saheli, a sonic entity of five South Asian q***r women. The work’s focus on sonic joy, musicality and collectivity stems from Seema’s personal experience of musical congregation as seva - Sanskrit for selfless service.

💛 This is BRB, an exhibition that brings together three North-West-based artists and members of FACT’s Studio/Lab who explore how constant connectivity is reshaping our understanding of ourselves, each other, and the world around us.

🌃 Liverpool Architectural Society are back with their new season of films at FACT, The Architecture of Monumentality, exploring the relationship between architecture, cities, power and the natural world.

🌃 On Tue 6 Oct, join us for the first film in the season: Koyaanisqatsi (1982). Seen through an architectural lens, Koyaanisqatsi presents the built environment as both a symptom and a driver of imbalance. Construction, infrastructure and transport are not shown as neutral systems, but as forces connected to extraction, acceleration and environmental damage.
