Don’t miss ‘Doowon Arrives in New York with Too Many Animals,’ Doowon Lee’s second solo presentation at ACA Galleries.

His practice is defined by a continuous cycle of observation and transformation where encounters with the natural world are absorbed, reimagined through material and form, and returned to the viewer as open-ended visual experiences.

🎈Today we celebrate the birthday of visionary Korean artist Doowon Lee.

Born in 1982, Lee is entirely self-taught. He draws lifelong inspiration from his father, a disciple of Namjonghwa master Uijae Huh Baek-ryun; his mother, a fashion designer; and his aunt, a graduate of the Beaux-Arts in France.

Lee has garnered significant critical and institutional recognition in recent years. In 2023, a solo exhibition was presented at the Saatchi Gallery in London and in 2024 Lee was selected as a representative artist for the Busan Biennale. In 2025 he was artist in residence at The Twenty Two, London and had his debut exhibition at ACA Galleries in New York.  He continues to actively exhibit domestically and internationally and has been the recipient of several glowing reviews in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal and Vogue magazine among others.

We are honored to have Doowon Lee as a part of the ACA Galleries family. ♥️

Don’t miss ‘Doowon Arrives in New York with Too Many Animals,’ currently on view through June 20. The exhibition marks Lee’s second solo presentation at ACA Galleries and introduces New York to a body of work that is materially rich and teeming with life.

💫 Charles White Spotlight 💫

Born in Chicago just after the First World War, Charles White (1918-1979) is widely recognized for his contributions to American Socialist Realism. His artworks were recognized for their force and conviction of the equal nature of all men.

Charles White said that he used his art to “say what I have to say” and “fight what I have to fight.” This bold and purposeful attitude in combination with an exquisite sensitivity for line, shape and tone makes White’s Social Realist art among the most beautiful of that often raw American movement. His drawings, paintings and lithographs of African-American life, its triumphs and struggles, are rendered as visual poetry.

✨ Kandy G Lopez Spotlight ✨

Kandy G Lopez was born in New Jersey and moved with her family to Florida when she was young. She received her BFA and BS from the University of South Florida, concentrating in Painting and in Marketing and Management. She received her MFA with a concentration in Painting from Florida Atlantic University in 2014. She has taught at Florida Atlantic University, Daytona State College, and is now teaching as an Associate Professor at NOVA Southeastern University.

Through her handwoven portraits, Lopez transforms fiber into a language of dignity and endurance, reclaiming cultural space while affirming resilience as both personal and collective truth. Exclusively represented by ACA Galleries, Lopez has emerged as one of the most vital voices in contemporary portraiture through her innovative “fiber paintings,” handwoven works that blur the boundaries between painting and textile art.

⭐️ Chinemerem ‘Eme’ Omeh Spotlight ⭐️

Chinemerem ‘Eme’ Omeh, originally from Nsukka, Nigeria and now based in Atlanta, creates paintings as a form of personal and cultural reflection. As a child, Omeh faced the challenges of dyslexia and struggled in traditional classroom settings. Language often felt inaccessible, and school was a place of frustration rather than connection.

It was through painting that he discovered a way to express himself clearly and honestly. What began as a personal outlet evolved into a powerful artistic voice. Drawing from memory, family life, and folklore, Omeh’s work explores transformation, resilience, and identity with striking emotional clarity.

Omeh earned a BA in fine and applied arts from the University of Nigeria. He has taken part in numerous solo and group exhibitions across Georgia, Miami, New York and London.
