Temporary Exhibition: Flying Stress
Opening Saturday 11 July*

“ …the fear of being thought a coward was more powerful than the fear of death…”

Learn more about the mental health pressures faced by Fighter Command aircrew during the Second World War through their personal stories and what maintained morale.

This project has been funded by The National Lottery Heritage Fund.

*Please note, the Museum will only be open to ticket holders to our Dowding System Day on Saturday 11 July. General access to the exhibition will be included in admission and membership from Wednesday 15 July

Celebrate 90 years of the Spitfire, and the incredible aircrew who flew it in the Second World War, with activities across the Museum.

Children can make mini-parachutes, animal mascots, and air-dry clay badges. There will also be pilot dressing up and games to test your reaction times!

Between Wednesday 22 July - Wednesday 2 September, children aged 12 and under are FREE when visiting with a paying adult or member. (Maximum 2 children per adult).

These activities have been made possible by The National Lottery Heritage Fund.

We are thrilled to be welcoming back Dr Victoria Taylor for her talk, 'Taken Off’: Psychological Health in the Luftwaffe during the Second World War

Victoria is an award-winning aviation historian, broadcaster, lecturer and writer. Author of the critically acclaimed book ‘Eagle Days – Life and Death for the Luftwaffe in the Battle of Britain‘.

Please note that the Museum is open for general admission from 10am – 2pm (last admission at 1pm). It is then open to Summer Serenade tickets holders only from 2pm, with a performance start time of 3pm.

We are delighted to be welcoming back Group Captain Tim Willbond, who this year will speak about The Big Wing Controversy.

Tim is the President of The Association of Royal Air Force Fighter Control Officers and is a great friend of the Museum, having served at RAF Bentley Priory during his career.

As our final post for this year's Volunteers Week, we're saying one more thank you our wonderful team.

Our Museum depends on the kindness and dedication of our volunteers. Some have been with us since before the Museum even opened, and over the last 13 years we have grown to a team of almost 100.

We were enormously proud when they were awarded the King's Award for Voluntary Service and we know it was well deserved.
