Stone, stories and centuries of island history... Minster Abbey Gatehouse is one of the Isle of Sheppey’s most striking links to its medieval past.

Minster Abbey’s story reaches back to 664, when Queen Sexburga founded a religious house here. The abbey was rebuilt in the 12th century before being dissolved in 1536, and the historic gatehouse remains part of this remarkable heritage setting.

Last Friday one of our visitors told us all about a photo they remember being taken in the Bethel church in Sheerness. However they don’t have that photo! Can anyone help? Any and all leads on how to track down the photo or more information about the photo would be appreciated!

The clues we have are:
- Bethel church, Sheerness
- 1930s /1940s
- Picture was of Nathanial Harris
- Nathanial was an acrobat on the island during this period

Friday Family Fun has officially started! Here’s two of our very talented children showcasing their family crests they made today. A big well done to both! 👏

We’ll be running the family crest craft session every Friday in August (2-4pm) and it’s all included in the standard admissions price (Adult: £2, Child: £1, Family of 2 adults and 3 children: £5)

Our little garden has won 3rd prize in the Schools/Business category! 🏆 huge thanks to our wonderful volunteers for keeping the garden in tip top shape and thanks to Yvonne and Lena for representing our museum at the awards 😊
