Newquay Museum Group has had some fantastic donations of images over the past year. The final batch of the 'Bernard White Collection' of Newquay and Mid-Cornwall during the late 20th century.

The 'Thatcher Collection' has images of both the Ada's on the River Gannel and the artifacts held there. Not forgetting some images and video of Charlie Force and his submarine.

The 'Daniel's Collection' has images of Newquay going back to the mid to late 19th century as well as later 20th century. Lots of other 'stuff' as well.

We thank all those folk who have donated and helped us preserve Newquay's past through images and other artefacts.

Following a short Newquay Old Cornwall Society AGM we will be showing a presentation of some images from these vast collections as an example of what we do at Newquay Museum in preserving and sharing Newquay's historical past.

Here we go again with another piece of poorly researched information. Queen Victoria NEVER visited the Atlantic Hotel in Newquay. When the hotel was completed in 1892 Queen Victoria would have been 73 at the time and last visited Cornwall in 1846 with Prince Albert. Where do people get these fantasies from?

Newquay Old Cornwall Society sadly shares the news that their immediate past President Moira Tangye has passed away at the age of 90.

Moira was a really splendid person, so knowledgeable and possessed a great sense of humour. Her contribution to Cornish heritage across many sectors was considerable. Moira was honoured with a bardship of Gorsedh Kernow in 1993 taking the Kernewek name ‘Kevrenores Kernow hag Ameryky’ (Linker of Cornwall & America). This name reflected her work relating to the Cornish Global Migration Project. She will also be known as author and compiler of 'The Book of St Ervan: The story of a rural parish published in 2006.

Besides this and her association with Newquay Old Cornwall Society, Moira was also connected with Cornwall Heritage Trust as a founder and many other Cornish organisations. A much fuller biographical obituary will be shared on the Newquay Museum Group website in due course.

Moira's funeral will take place on 20th February at the Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Tower Road, Newquay. It is a privilege to have known Moira and spent time chatting and having a laugh with her. She will be remembered with great affection by many people.

Richard Trevithick as is recognised here in Cornwall was the inventor of the first steam locomotive, hauling goods in 1804.
