Less than a week to go until Battersea Affordable Art Fair UK & we're excited to be bringing for the first time Alec Cu***ng and Sam Karsenbarg Hennig to the fair ! 🔥 Both of their works are colourful, energetic and full of textures! Sure to catch attention 🤩

Alec Cu***ng is a Norfolk based artist inspired by his years of living in India and in more recent years of travel in Sri Lanka and the Unites States. His work is bold, vibrant and packed with memories which feel familiar to all viewers in a way drawing our own experiences into Alec's brushstrokes! His thick use of oil paint creates a beautiful textural surface emphasizing the subject matters and creating a gorgeous surface to get lost in!

Sam Hennig is a london based painter whose work draws attention to the fleeting, over-looked moments in life, finding beauty and joy in them. His work is full of personal anecdotes that can be universally related to and a beautiful colour pallete to accentuate any space! Having debuted in our gallery this year in the duo show Sublime Anecdotes, we are excited to bring a mixture of paintings from his body of work including many brand new pieces inspired by flowers and his love of running through the countryside and his portraiture full of character!

We have a new set of vessels by Dianne Randle and they are all available now!

We are thrilled to have a new selection of her vessels inspired by her love of the Norfolk landscape, echoing the rhythms of the sea, or the physicality of eroded coral! From reeds to ocean worn pebbles, Dianne re-interprets the natural world into beautiful sculptural artworks!

Made from 100%merino wool fibres these vessels are sustainable and tactile, statement pieces for any space!

Our artwork of the month 🎉
Adonis Torso, by Mark Mann, cast and hand-carved ceramic individually glazed,
approx. 28 x 18.5 x 12 cm each

Drawing inspiration from nature, Greek and Roman mythology, and Q***r histories, Mark Mann creates beautifully crafted works across ceramics, bronze, painting and textiles. His pieces capture people with their powerful messages and strong subject matters, but draw a viewer in to look closer with his use of unique and stunning glazes and carved details.

Adonis was most notable in Greek mythology for having extraordinary beauty and has become a symbol of the most handsome mortal, a divine physique that Mann replicates into his artworks rich with carved details. We’re delighted to now introduce two new torsos!

The first is finished in a rich, mottled bronze glaze, with a wonderfully expressive drip of glaze falling from the end of the broken arm, a small detail that makes the piece feel entirely captivating

The second features the distinctive green glaze, iconic of Mark’s works, but with striking areas where the glaze breaks away to reveal the raw clay beneath. This interplay between glaze and exposed ceramic heightens the dynamism of the surface.

Both torsos will be on display throughout September, and available to browse on our website!

This month's open days are the 7th, 13th, 15th, 19th, 27th and 28th, come by to see these and many other intriguing works! 🤩

Artwork of the Month 🎉 Low Tide 03 by Dianne Randle

Dianne Randle is a textile artist based in Norwich who creates contemporary felted vessels and wall mounted works. Her pieces are inspired by her love of nature, in particular the Norfolk coastline.

Low Tide 03 is a beautiful work which brings to the forefront a contrast of the muted blues and turquoise with the vibrant pop of yellow and pink above. This allows for a work which carries your eye across the surface and creates a dynamism within the colours. The tactile surface quality of Dianne’s works adds a contrast of textures between the felted wool and the linen, all framed beautifully in sleek oak making a bold and eye-catching work!

We are super excited to announce our next exhibition, the long awaited second Summer Open Call Exhibition, DUALITY 🎉🤩

Come along to see works by over 30 artists, currently living and creating from all over the UK, including many from Norfolk. Chosen by our guest curator Mark Mann alongside Kenza and Marie, all of the works featured respond to our theme this year of ‘duality’!

We cannot wait to welcome you all into this ambitious display of eclectic and thought provoking art spanning a wide range of mediums and subject matters!

Opening evening Friday August 21st 7-9pm 🍾 and running daily August 22nd-30th, 11am - 6pm 🔥

We are now over half way through Generation Gray and what a response so far! 🙌

Meet the Generation Gray artists 🤩

Our six represented artists are taking over the gallery for our upcoming show, opening Friday next week,so here’s a little introduction to each of them 🔥

is a Norfolk-born, self-taught painter whose work is shaped by folklore, Western culture, and memories of visiting his family ranch in California. His layered painting technique creates rich textures, with traces of earlier scenes often left visible beneath the surface.

is a Norwich-based painter exploring the manipulation of the natural world through animals & plant life in unsettling, unexpected forms. A graduate of Norwich University of the Arts, she examines duality, tenderness, & violence, drawing on intimate memories & reflections on early adulthood.

Caitlin Flood-Molyneux is a contemporary artist based in South Wales. Their mixed-media practice explores pop culture imagery & the emotion and memory we attach to images, using bold colour & striking visuals to express personal experiences of hardship.

Daniel Franklin is an East Anglian artist working predominantly in oil portraiture. His paintings highlight beauty in mundane moments, bringing together his background in film & moving image with an interest in movement, the body, and human nature.

Mark Mann is a Norfolk-based multimedia artist whose work reveals overlooked histories & confronts concealed realities. His pieces explore the discomfort of q***r pasts through beautifully crafted, luxurious artworks that challenge preconceptions while finding joy in their captivating nature.

Kenza Ceramics, director of Gray Area Gallery, is a ceramic artist focused on what she defines as “destructive pottery”. Using brutal & unpredictable methods of creation, including shooting ceramics with a gun, she contrasts the fragility of clay with violence to create striking, one-of-a-kind works.

These artists are at the heart of our gallery many of which having worked with us for a long time and we could not be prouder of them!

Head down to the gallery on Friday 17th, 7-9pm, for the opening evening. Everyone is welcome to come & see this diverse & vibrant show, we can’t wait to show you 🎉

2 weeks countdown to Generation Gray's opening evening! 🍾🔥
Featuring a diverse range of mediums, subjects, and artistic approaches, the exhibition will celebrate the breadth of our represented artists and their practices. From Kenza Ceramics 's striking shot ceramics to 's Western-inspired folk paintings, this show will bring together an engaging collection of new work that reflects the individuality of each artist while revealing the shared spirit of the gallery.
