If You Squint, Lambrini and Lamborghini Look The Same

30.5 x 21.3cm
Acrylic on Board

Part of The Breakers Yard, this painting captures a modest takeaway glowing within vast darkness, with parked cars gathered outside — their presence suggesting the quiet rituals of late-night routine. With characteristic restraint, Wootton-Davies elevates a familiar roadside scene, gently touching on perception, aspiration and the understated theatre of everyday life.

Available to acquire via the website from Sunday 1st March.

There is something incredibly powerful about restraint.

Halima Cassell MBE’s Shards are born from the same language that runs through her larger works — geometry, rhythm, tension — but here the gesture is distilled. Reduced. Refined.

Each shard feels as though it has been broken from something monumental, yet it stands alone with complete authority. Angular. Precise. Almost architectural. The surface catching light and shadow in ways that shift as you move around it.

What we love about these works is the balance they hold — strength and fragility, fracture and control. They are not fragments in the literal sense, but explorations of form pushed to its edge.

Halima has spent decades mastering the discipline of carving into clay with mathematical precision. The Shards feel like a continuation of that journey — intimate in scale, monumental in presence.

Available to view at Soden Collection.

Details in abstract art.

It’s easy to stand back and take in the whole. The composition. The balance. The gesture.

But the real conversation often happens in the details.

In abstract painting, details aren’t decorative — they are evidence. Of time. Of decisions made and unmade. Of layers concealed and revealed. A small shift in tone, a scraped-back surface, a line that almost disappears… these are the moments where the artist’s thinking lives.

With Ian Rayer-Smith’s paintings, it’s in these quieter passages that something opens up. What at first feels resolved begins to breathe. The surface holds movement, hesitation, memory.

Abstract work asks us to slow down. To look closer. To notice.

A selection of Ian’s recent paintings are now available to view on our website.

The Breakers Yard looks at places on the edge of usefulness — spaces where labour, memory and material quietly overlap.

Presented by The Soden Collection (1–31 March), the exhibition brought together a focused group of new paintings exploring working environments, overlooked sites, and the quiet poetry of functional spaces.

Through a restrained palette and careful observation, Louis Wootton-Davies captures places shaped by use rather than display — spaces that carry traces of human presence without ever centring the figure itself.

The exhibition launched online and in-gallery throughout March, with all works available for purchase.

We’re proud to have shared Louis’s quietly powerful perspective on the built world — finding beauty in the ordinary, and meaning in the worn edges of work and time.

The Breakers Yard is a new body of paintings by Louis Wootton-Davies that looks at working places and everyday spaces — yards, buildings and environments shaped by time, use and human presence.

These are paintings that sit with you rather than shout, noticing small details and the traces left behind in functional places.
The exhibition is live online from 1–31 March and can also be seen in the gallery throughout the month.

Why I started Soden Collection.

Soden Collection began with a simple belief: that people shouldn’t have to live in a major city to experience really good contemporary art.

I wanted to create a space in Shrewsbury that championed artists properly — through long-term relationships, thoughtful curation and genuine support — rather than just treating art as something to be bought and sold.

Over time, the gallery has grown into something much broader than a traditional exhibition space. It’s become a place where artists, collectors, designers and the wider community can connect, where conversations happen, and where quality and care come first.

We don’t just sell pictures. We work within a wider cultural landscape — supporting artists, collaborating with local initiatives, and helping to keep contemporary art visible and relevant here in Shropshire.

That belief still underpins everything we do today.

We’re pleased to be focusing on the oil paintings of Chris Evans.

Defined by a sophisticated palette and a sense of calm, these paintings work beautifully within a wide range of interiors — from aged, characterful spaces to clean, contemporary settings. Subtle, thoughtful works that reveal more the longer you spend with them.

Chris first came to our attention as a winner of the competition, and we’re delighted to be sharing this small, considered group of works in the gallery.

The gallery from the outside.

A calm place to step into, take your time, and spend a moment with work chosen for how it lives — and lasts.

These are the last few days of shopping before we close for the festive period.

Art worth living with.
Please come in.
