☀️ We hosted one of our popular Tours for All today when one of our resident historians Andy Skinner led an intrepid band on one of the hottest days of the year in exploring myths and mysteries linked to Southampton.
👇Below you'll find a blog post written by Andy linked to just one story touched on during the walk, the question of why our beautiful house has a jetty. https://andyvskinner.wordpress.com/2024/08/15/the-jetty-a-tudor-house-myth/

🌱🌷🌸🌹🌺🌻Our garden is looking spectacular at the moment ☀️. Why not pop in, enjoy a cold 🥛in our café and a wander around our wonderful house. Although the Tudors weren't known for their air conditioning the house is cooler than the beach!
Remember, a ticket lasts a whole year so you can enjoy us in all the seasons❄️🌦️🌞🍂

Sarah, a Little Bear in Care who is spending a few weeks at Tudor House and Garden, is exploring our Tudor and Victorian kitchens this afternoon……

She is rather furry and has wisely decided that spending the afternoon inside on this super sunny Sunday might be the coolest idea…!

Stay cool everyone! ☀️

We had a fantastic tour in the ☀️ at Tudor House when archaeologist Matt Garner led an enthralling sold-out walking tour focused on examining and exploring medieval and post-medieval graffiti engraved throughout the Old Town, looking at merchant marks, daisy wheels, Marian marks and much, much more.
🙏Many thanks to English Heritage for opening up Medieval Merchant's House for us to have a sneak peak at some marks there.
🔗If you would enjoy other weekday doses of history in Southampton there is lots to look forward to, including other walking tours and talks across the City, which you can browse here: https://seacitymuseum.co.uk/whats-on/events-and-activities/

📢We tasked Tim with answering some rapid questions about Tudor House! ❓
📺Could this be the next great TV gameshow format? We're not sure, but we do historic buildings pretty well!
👐We'd love to welcome you and share the amazing stories of Tudor House. Don't forget a standard ticket lasts a whole year!

Earlier this week we enjoyed a couple of events linked to the publication of Andy Skinner and Richard Henry's new book A Walk Through Southampton. Participants enjoyed the opportunity to join a walking tour around the Old Town, to touch fossilised poo and examine lots of incredible artefacts discovered by archaeologists close to Tudor House.
Copies of A Walk are available in our shop, along with their publication about the Southampton Blitz, Bloody but Unbowed. You'll also find a lovely selection of other local history books
Andy and Richard both work for our busy and active museums service, Andy in our education team and Richard as our curator of archaeology.

Sarah’s adventures today have involved meeting Tostig, a friendly Norman who visits Tudor House!

Tostig demonstrates and re-enacts in costume to welcome visitors to King Johns Palace, the Norman-period merchants house on site at the far end of our lovely garden!
