🐂 El Bravo by Zac Newman 🐂

We are delighted to welcome sculptor Zac Newman to the Palais des Vaches, where his monumental sculpture El Bravo takes centre stage in our sculpture garden.

Inspired by the formidable Spanish Toro Bravo, El Bravo captures the moment before movement — powerful, poised and charged with restrained energy.

Crafted from reclaimed timber, oak and Douglas Fir and dramatically finished using the Japanese Shou Sugi Ban technique, this extraordinary sculpture stretches an impressive five metres from horn to tail.

🎨Artist demonstration - Jack Metcalf🎨

We are delighted to announce that Jack Metcalf will be at the Palais des Vaches tomorrow (Sunday 23rd August) as part of Hampshire Open Studios.

Following his 3rd Place award in our inaugural Palais Art Prize, Jack returns to the gallery grounds to demonstrate his delicate mastery of plein air painting.

A self-taught painter, Jack’s work is deeply attuned to the atmospheric nuance and evocative serenity of the Dorset coast and countryside. Working directly in the open air, his work captures the transient nature of light and the endless movement of coastal skies.
A curated selection of Jack's original oil paintings will also be on display and available to buy.

Puglia One - John Illsley.

Oil on canvas, 160cm x 125cm.

An evocative abstract landscape inspired by the sun-drenched landscapes and distinctive coastal lines of southern Italy.

Puglia One is an original oil on canvas by John Illsley, founding member and bass guitarist of Dire Straits. Created between 2017 and 2020, the work translates the warmth, rhythm and character of Puglia into a bold, expressive composition of rich ochres, oranges and earthy tones, punctuated by strong, gestural lines.

A striking statement work for a contemporary collection and a wonderful opportunity to own an original painting by an artist whose creative career spans both music and fine art.
