🎃🦇🖤Spooktacular making and storytelling activities at Shoemakers Museum this half term.

Book your place on a lantern-making or puppet-making workshop. Drop in to an interactive storytelling workshop. Or come along to the super spooky afterhours Spooktacular on 30 October.

All half term week the trail is the Museum of Lost Shoes - follow the clues around the museum and reunite some spooky shoes with their monsterous and magical owners.

There's something fun for everyone during this Halloween week as we've added some shoes from the archive collections into the gallery. So come and spot the new additions!

🦁👑🇪🇹 On this day, in 1937. Emperor Haile Selassie I of Ethiopia visited Crispin Hall in Street to open the All Nations Bazaar, reflecting the village's outward-looking character and interest in international affairs. The Emperor had hospitality, friendship, support from the people of Somerset during his wartime exile from Ethiopia.

Family-friendly and ever so spooky Halloween fun at Shoemakers Museum.

This half-term follow spooky trails through the galleries, listen to ghostly tales from the past, create eerie crafts and come dressed in your favourite Halloween costume.

Discover Shoemakers Museum after dark on Friday 30 October with a later night torchlight trail around the galleries and decidedly creepy visitors Rosie and Posie to help or hinder your journey – visit if you dare!

📢 Cafe Talk! Wed 11am. Did you know Emperor Haile Selassie visited Street? or that Fairfield House in Somerset was the home of Emperor Haile Selassie during fascist Italy's invasion of Ethiopia in 1935.

Enjoy a fascinating morning cafe talk to accompany the new Autumn exhibition Roots, Routes and Resistence. Historian and researcher Ras Benji talks on the history of Fairfield House and HIM Emperor Haile Selassie I and his connections to Somerset.

Shoemakers' Autumn Exhibition Roots, Routes and Resilience, highlights the lasting legacy of Fairfield House in Bath, the former home of Emperor Haile Selassie during his years in exile in Britain, and its continuing role as a place of culture, learning and community in this, the 90th anniversary of his time in the UK.

A snapshot into the vibracy of the Georgian period. This 1720 silk brocaded court shoe was not made for walking. Vivid colours, luxurious materials, curvatious Louie heels, this shoe was worn to show status and extravagance from house to carriage to ballroom, barely touching the outside world.

Melanie Thompson with composer Helen Ottaway have created Step by Step an installation and performance piece created for Shoemakers Museum's two corridors. Spaces within the museum inspired the piece with live performances taking place.

Come and visit. Installation Open Daily 10-4pm.
Performance on Saturday's 26 Sept and 3 Oct at 12noon and 2pm
