Swansea is getting one of Britain's biggest contemporary art exhibitions in 2027 - and it's coming to venues across the city 🎨

🏛️ British Art Show 10 is coming to Swansea from 12 February to 16 May 2027 - making Swansea the only stop in Wales for one of the UK's most significant recurring contemporary art exhibitions.

🎭 The exhibition - titled A Chorus of Strangers - will be curated by Ekow Eshun and bring together over 30 artists to explore human connection and the figure of the "Other" in divided times, across themes of Moments of Being, Ways of Living and States of Nature.

📍 Venues across Swansea will host the exhibition, including Glynn Vivian Art Gallery, Elysium , GS Artists Swansea, Mission Gallery, Swansea Museum and Volcano.

🎨 The show will feature painting, sculpture, ceramics, film, sound and installation - and over its four-decade history has previously featured artists including Tracey Emin, Grayson Perry, David Hockney and Lucian Freud.

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 Swansea is one of just five UK cities on the tour, alongside Coventry, Bristol, Sheffield and Newcastle-Gateshead, and is the only Welsh city to feature.

💬 Karen MacKinnon, curator at Glynn Vivian, said: "This exhibition will create new opportunities for local artists and a lasting creative legacy for Swansea."

📢Hayward Gallery Touring announces title, concept and selection of participating artists for 10th edition of British Art Show. ✨️

‘British Art Show 10: A Chorus of Strangers’, launches in Coventry in October 2026 before touring to Swansea, Bristol, Sheffield and Newcastle Gateshead.
Ekow Eshun’s curatorial vision will bring together over 30 artists to provide a vital overview of the most exciting art produced in the UK during the past five years.

Venues to host British Art Show 10 in Swansea include Glynn Vivian Art Gallery, Elysium Gallery, GS Artists, Mission Gallery, Swansea Museum, and Volcano Theatre.

British Art Show 10 is produced by Hayward Gallery Touring and forms a key part of the Southbank Centre’s 75th anniversary national programme.

New acquisition. Just in time for Dydd Gŵyl Dewi. Traditional Welsh hat and mobcap, complete with invoice dated May, 4th 1936. Made for Mrs. Lewis of Treboeth.
