A look back at this pair of bespoke baskets which were a real challenge for us. π
Ulrich did a fantastic job of weaving the baskets using the template supplied by the customer. Then we had the additional job of finding and fitting the brass hinges and leather straps to match the standard of the basket and the car itself.
The car is unique, it is a 1903 Napier, 20 hp, built in Acton, London. It runs on unleaded petrol, apparently prior to 1927 all cars ran on unleaded petrol. Even now the car drives extremely well. At the time it was made it was a very expensive car to buy, probably costing the equivalent to several houses.
The platform the baskets sit on were original and there would have been baskets on it originally. The baskets are a unusual shape and would have been used to keep all sorts of odds and ends such as spanners, oil cans or driving gloves!
It was lovely to find out more about this unique vehicle and we are so pleased that the customer is so happy with the baskets. π
