Jack King and Noel Slocock came from vastly different backgrounds โ one an orphan at age thirteen, the other raised in a well-to-do Victorian household shaped by strong religious values. Yet their lives followed a strikingly similar path, grounded in deeply rooted principles: a commitment to family, a tireless work ethic, and a profound sense of duty to King and Country. Both were gifted sportsmen, and it was the camaraderie forged on the rugby field that ultimately led them to their tragic demise.
Toby Goodman's latest book, โJack and Noel From Scrum to Sacrificeโ tells the story of two international rugby playersโone from Yorkshire, the other from Lancashireโwho gave everything for the game they loved and, ultimately, their lives on the battlefield in France.
Marking the 110 years since King and Slocock were killed, this book is published in a limited edition of 110 copies. It is dedicated to and signed by Lewis Moody MBE, with a foreword by Martin Johnson CBE.
