Jack King and Noel Slocock came from vastly different backgrounds โ€” one an orphan at age thirteen, the other raised in a well-to-do Victorian household shaped by strong religious values. Yet their lives followed a strikingly similar path, grounded in deeply rooted principles: a commitment to family, a tireless work ethic, and a profound sense of duty to King and Country. Both were gifted sportsmen, and it was the camaraderie forged on the rugby field that ultimately led them to their tragic demise.

Toby Goodman's latest book, โ€˜Jack and Noel From Scrum to Sacrificeโ€™ tells the story of two international rugby playersโ€”one from Yorkshire, the other from Lancashireโ€”who gave everything for the game they loved and, ultimately, their lives on the battlefield in France.

Marking the 110 years since King and Slocock were killed, this book is published in a limited edition of 110 copies. It is dedicated to and signed by Lewis Moody MBE, with a foreword by Martin Johnson CBE.

Copies are available for ยฃ15 (plus ยฃ2 UK p&p) directly from the author by emailing [email protected]

๐Ÿ”™ OTD in 1875 ๐Ÿ—“๏ธ

It's been 151 years since IrishRugby took to the field for the first time, at the Oval in London ๐ŸŸ๏ธ

They wore green and white hooped jerseys, matching socks and white knickerbockers. This was revised to white jerseys with blue shorts and socks the following year, with a sprig of five shamrocks.

In 1885, the shamrock was standardised to one that would be familiar today and by 1886 Ireland were in their now famous green jerseys โ˜˜๏ธ
