It’s taken a couple of days to post these as we went straight into running our monthly Stitchers and Skivers craft group yesterday but here are just a few of the fabulous clay sheep from Wednesday’s drop-in activity.
Wonderful potter and craftsperson, Kate Tilley, led the amazing activities on Wednesday that saw nearly 200 people come through the sessions!! She truly was a Wonder Woman that day and I don’t think she ever stopped smiling.
Thanks too to all the wonderful families who took part - we hope you enjoyed it as much as we did!
If you have any photos of the day, we’d love to see them in the comments below 👌

We’re preparing to relocate the Leather Museum from Littleton Street West to a new town centre home at 1–3 The Bridge. The purchase of the building was completed this week.

The building (originally a drapers store) offers a flexible, open‑plan space with a prominent corner frontage and large windows. Its position next to the Leather Skills Centre also brings new opportunities to help people reconnect with Walsall’s leather‑making heritage.

📆 The museum’s final day of opening at the current site will be Saturday, 11 April 2026.

All planned Easter activities will still take place.

During the transition:

📚 Collections:

Our collections, including the specialist library and around 600 historic books, catalogues and photographs, will be carefully packed and securely stored by specialist teams.

🎨 Community groups:

Groups currently hosted at the museum will continue to be supported. The Stitchers Group will temporarily meet at The New Art Gallery Walsall.

We’ll continue to share updates as work progresses on the new site.

🙏 A huge thank you to the amazing Carl Chinn MBE for his insightful talk exploring the subject of his new book - Peaky Blinders: The Real Gangs and Gangsters.

📖 We were delighted to welcome Carl today to the Leather Museum. He drew on his decades of expertise, and even some of his own family history, to give an insight into what life was really like for areas of Birmingham, and the wider Black Country area throughout the Victorian and Edwardian eras.

We’ve had an absolutely record breaking day at the museum today at our drop-in leathercraft sessions! Our fantastic visitors made a whopping 162 pencil cases which is just incredible 😱

We’re so sorry to anyone who didn’t get to make one - staff worked incredibly hard to make sure that as many children as we could possibly manage could do the activity but we know a few left disappointed and we’re really sorry about that. Rest assured that we’ll prepare even more for our sessions at Easter!

Here’s a few pictures that we managed to catch today but if anyone has any others, we’d love to see them in the comments 😊

If anyone managed to capture any pictures of their artists at work, we’d love to see them ❤️
