Hands-on History! 🖐️
DIG is an archaeological adventure for young explorers aged 5–12! With help from our friendly team, you’ll uncover some of York’s most fascinating stories, buried underground for nearly 2,000 years! DIG is split into three zones: Learn, Uncover, and Explore, each one taking you through a different part of the archaeological journey. Whether it’s your first time digging or you
’re already into archaeology, there’s something here for everyone! 🤩
Kids can dig down deep (in our synthetic, no mess soil) to discover artefacts from the four major periods of York’s fascinating history. An Archaeologist is on hand to answer your questions on your finds & help you piece together what it would have been like to live in the past! Get hands on with history and actually touch finds from previous digs, including pottery, bone and even antlers! You will discover what these artefacts tell us about the lives of people who used them. 😮
Please note: To help ensure the safety of all visitors and staff, additional security measures are currently in place. Bags will be searched upon entry, and the maximum permitted bag size is 38cm × 30cm. Visitors who do not comply with security procedures will be refused admission. We kindly ask that all pushchairs are emptied of bags and accessories before entry so they can be checked and that visitors keep their bags and personal items on them for the duration of their visit.
