Zhang Haoyan
Golden Bough
Oil on Canvas
60x50x4 cm

In Golden Bough, Zhang Haoyan ( ) draws from the anthropological text The Golden Bough, reflecting on the sacred tree as a recurring symbol across both Eastern and Western cultures. Branches become sites of transformation, where animal forms emerge as guardian spirits intertwined with nature, mythology, and ritual.
The work traces a shared cultural imagination, revealing how different civilizations project spiritual meaning onto the natural world through remarkably parallel symbols and beliefs.

At ART ISLAND, Marian Cramer Projects presents works of Bob Jonkers — paintings that explore how digital culture reshapes our perception of reality, identity, and lived experience.

In an age defined by smartphone cameras and constant online visibility, Jonkers examines the tension between presence and representation. His work reflects on how moments are increasingly captured, edited, and curated for circulation within digital space, where perception often outweighs truth and experience becomes performative.

Through layered compositions, Jonkers investigates the distance created by technologies that promise connection. His paintings question what remains of authentic experience when memory itself is mediated through screens, images, and algorithms.

Bob Jonkers’ work invites us to reflect on the fragile boundary between reality and its digital construction — and on the ways visual culture continues to shape consciousness itself.

Umntageous Box - Folded Eternity
Oil on Canvas

Folded Eternity draws inspiration from ancient Chinese literati’s appreciation of stones. They viewed exotic grotesque stones as miniature replicas of towering mountains, often taking them out for contemplation and play, believing these stones held mystical power — a peculiar form of spiritual communion. This echoes today’s youth figurine culture: such miniature pastimes dilute grand narratives into consumer culture.

The Jar’s Cosmos is a piece created exclusively for the fair . It continues the creative concept of his Box Series. In traditional Chinese Taoism, the worldview is condensed into a ceramic jar, whose interior space is regarded as an energetic realm embracing heaven and earth. Within this jar-shaped space, Zhang Haoyan adopt the classic hues of imperial Chinese porcelain and floral still-life compositions reminiscent of the Dutch Little Masters, crafting a unique realm defined by fused aesthetics.

Next week, Marian Cramer Projects will present a selection of works by Bob Jonkers () at Art-Island ( ).

Working through painting as a fragmented archive of lived experience, Jonkers captures fleeting moments that together form a carefully constructed visual narrative. His works reflect on the profound influence of smartphones and social media on contemporary perception — how daily life is increasingly mediated through screens, framed through cameras, and experienced simultaneously in real time and retrospect.

Installed collectively, the paintings evoke the rhythm of a continuous camera roll, blurring the line between documentation and lived reality. Familiar scenes reappear at varying scales, allowing new layers of texture, intimacy, and meaning to emerge. Through this accumulation of images, Jonkers explores the tension between immediacy and mediation, inviting viewers to reconsider how technology shapes memory, perception, and the way we compose our understanding of the world.

Bob Jonkers
‘Narcissus’ Oil on board, 122 × 80 cm

Jonkers transforms the digital image into layered psychological terrain — fragments of memory suspended between recognition and distortion, enlarged until a fleeting visual trace carries the weight of something permanent. On view at A Curated Being.
