The book originates from the Festival Exhibition 2020 and includes texts—both in English and Sámi—by Mathias Danbolt, Candice Hopkins, Tone Huse, Joar Nango, Taqralik Partridge, Sofia Singler, Sigbjørn Skåden, and Axel Wieder.

In addition, the publication is richly illustrated with images from the exhibition itself at Bergen Kunsthall, as well as from the preparatory process and from various related projects that Nango has worked on. With deep practical and material knowledge, tradition-rooted craftsmanship, aesthetic conviction, and a touch of humor, the artist and architect Nango succeeds in bringing together the past and present of his Sámi culture in installations and individual works that speak to both their surroundings and the audience in an unpretentious and direct manner.

Et mysterium har funnet sted på Bergen Kunsthall, og vi trenger din hjelp til å løse det. Resepsjonistene har på mystisk vis mistet hukommelsen og kan ikke huske hva utstillingen handler om. Kan du hjelpe resepsjonistene med å finne ut hva utstillingen handler om og hvem som stjal minnet deres?

Bergen Kunsthall holder åpent med vanlige åpningstider denne helgen. Det er de siste tre dagene med utstillingen «Iter Subterraneum». Så stenger vi dørene og ønsker Bergen Art Book Fair velkommen 11–12. april.

LAST WEEK OF "ITER SUBTERRANEUM"!

Our group exhibition "Iter Subterraneum" is almost over! Don't miss your chance to experience it before it closes. Bergen Kunsthall remains open as usual during Easter, and our Sunday tours continue (13:00 + 14:00). The 13:00 tour is finetuned for families and includes a fun workshop. The 14:00 tour is an Open guided tour. Don’t miss your chance—visit us this week and join a Sunday tour!

More than 340 children and young people from schools in Bergen participated in a project with artist Sarah Jost, in connection with the exhibition "Iter Subterraneum". The children created drawings of strange, peculiar creatures that might live beneath Bergen Kunsthall, each linked to the building through a vast root system. The root system took over the walls on our second floor!

Sarah Jost works with installation and sculpture, featuring elements of text, drawing, and found materials. She methodically reuses fragments from previous works, combined with found elements, to create new works.

Sarah Jost (b. 1979, Norum, Sweden) lives and works in Bergen. She holds an MA in Fine Art from the Bergen National Academy of the Arts (2009) and a BA in Ceramic Art from the Academy of Design and Crafts at the University of Gothenburg. Jost's solo exhibitions include Kunstgarasjen (Bergen), Galleri Christinegaard (Bergen), Norske Grafikere (Oslo), Galleri Mors Mössa (Gothenburg), and Kristinehamn Museum of Art (Kristinehamn).

SISTE UKE MED «ITER SUBTERRANEUM»!

Gruppeutstillingen «Iter Subterraneum» er snart over. Bergen Kunsthall holder åpent som vanlig i påsken, og våre søndagsomvisninger fortsetter (13:00 + 14:00). Besøk oss for å oppleve verk av kunstnere fra hele verden og bli med på en sci-fi-reise inspirert av Ludvig Holbergs roman fra 1741, Niels Klims underjordiske reise. Siste dag er nå søndag 5. april.

Bokhandelen vår er åpen og har en rekke titler knyttet til «Iter Subterraneum» og andre utstillinger. Inkludert er vår nye utgivelse «Girjegumpi» av Joar Nango, en Bergen Kunsthall-publikasjon i samarbeid med Sternberg Press. Vi har også vakre plakater, laget spesielt for «Iter Subterraneum» av Blank Blank Studio.

Landmark kafé holder også åpent, og Klubballiansen inviterer til en fantastisk klubbkveld lørdag 4. april kl. 23:00. Kjøkkenet holder stengt på skjærtorsdag og første påskedag.

«One Fig» av Ingela Ihrman ble aktivert som performance onsdag 25. mars. Kostymet forestiller en fiken delt i to, med fruktens myke indre blottlagt. Når verket tas i bruk, blir deling og bevegelse en enkel, kroppslig gest i rommet.

Du kan se «One Fig» i gruppeutstillingen «Iter Subterraneum» på Bergen Kunsthall, som nå går inn i sine siste dager. Kunsthallen holder åpent som vanlig gjennom påsken, inkludert søndagsomvisninger kl. 13.00 (for familier) og 14.00. Siste dag er søndag 5. april.

Ingela Ihrman (f. 1985, Kalmar) er basert i Stockholm. Hun arbeider med skulpturelle kostymer og performance som utforsker hva det vil si å være levende, gjennom humor og biologiske metaforer. Utvalgte utstillinger inkluderer Malmö Konsthall (2024), Veneziabiennalen (2019) og Gwangju-biennalen (2016).

One Fig, Ingela Ihrman

Ingela Ihrman works with performance, sculpture and costume, often with humor and tenderness as an introduction to questions about the body, desire and identification. Ihrman is known for her transformations in which she enters plant and animal forms, human and non-human bodies sliding into each other.

One Fig is part of the exhibition "Iter Subterraneum", where the work is presented as a sculpture in Gallery III. This evening it is activated as a performance. The costume depicts a fig divided in two, with the soft interior of the fruit exposed. When the work is put into use, division and movement become a simple, bodily gesture in the space. The performance work is performed in the exhibition, which is open late for the occasion until 19:00.

Ingela Ihrman (b. 1985, Kalmar) is based in Stockholm. She works with sculptural costumes and performance that explore what it means to be alive, through humor and biological metaphors. Selected exhibitions include Malmö Konsthall (2024), the Venice Biennale (2019), and the Gwangju Biennale (2016).

We are excited to announce the three selected residencies from our Live Studio 2025 open call. This year, we will welcome Ina Hagen, Ase Brunborg Lie, in collaboration with Robin Everett and Janne Thomsen, and Karina Sletten, in collaboration with August Ramstad, Isak Osland Oskal, and Sean Minhui Tashi Chua.

In March, .hagen will write the script and score for a new live work centred on the tongue fern. This prehistoric plant, which transforms into coal in its fossilised form, serves as an entry point into a reflection on the politics of fire and the politics of denial driving today's gravest atrocities.
In April, in collaboration with .everett and Janne Thomsen, will develop their long-term project “NIMBLE WEAVERS”, an investigation into energy infrastructure, land-use conflict, and community knowledge within Biosphere Reserve.

In June, will develop two projects: one in collaboration with August Ramstad and Isak Osland Oskal, continuing her investigation into the resonances of empty buildings, the other project, in collaboration with Sean Minhui Tashi Chua, will focus on a sound installation transforming human body into instruments, using Chua's code system to track Arctic sea ice.

Guided by “Another Sun’s” curatorial compass, this year’s open call took on a thematic focus: below-ground imaginaries. Each resident will present their project during a sharing session in the Live Studio — stay connected for updates.
