A new kind of museum is taking shape.

The Museum of Furniture Studies is coming to life in Älmhult, Sweden.

Designed by , the building will be a place for experience, interaction, and connection around design. Stretching from furniture design history to the contemporary design scene, and with a platform for future designers, it brings together the past, present and future of furniture design.

Opening February 2027. See you in Älmhult!

News - Ex-Works 25 with IKEA and the furniture industry!

The Museum of Furniture Studies continues to highlight design students and their work – now alongside IKEA and the furniture industry with the Ex-Works program. The initiative aims to share knowledge, showcase student projects, and foster important meetings between young designers and industry players.

Ex-Works 25 opens on 4 June in Älmhult, which is now continuing movements towards a design destination. At this time we will also offer a pop-up exhibition of Classics & Icons.

We are happy to announce that the Museum of Furniture Studies will open again, now in Småland - the region of furniture making!

IKEA Älmhult acquires the museum and will continue supporting design students and making the collection accessible to the public.

The museum has now closed it’s Stockholm location after five active years. We want to thank you all for your support!

The Museum of Furniture Studies will continue it’s operations in 2023 by inspiring students and other design lovers alike. Our goal is to keep contributing to the development of the Scandinavia furniture culture.

DON’T MISS OUT! ONLY FOUR WEEKENDS LEFT!

These coming four weekends are the last chance for you and your friends to view one of the largest collections of design furniture in Europe. Due to the lack of funding the museum is closing down its physical location in Stockholm after five years. The museum is open every Saturday and Sunday until the 28th of November.

A visit to the Museum of Furniture Studies was one of the highlights during Malmstens Alumni's Stockholm international seminar in September. Just over 100 professional furniture artists, cabinetmakers, specialists in building preservation and furniture conservations from over 10 countries attended a cocktail reception on Sunday evening, September 18.

Lars Bülow, architect and co-founder of the museum introduced the guests to the museum permanent collection and the temporary exhibition Ex-Works 2022, featuring 40 design students from 5 Swedish design colleges.
