These handblown guardian angel garden ornaments by local glass artist Russ O'Brien reflect light in more ways than one. Not only are they beautifully crafted, sometimes throwing tiny rainbows of light that dance around as the sun changes throughout the day, they also embody light and hope in a real and meaningful way! Some of the proceeds from every guardian angel go to Akron Children's hospital!

Did you know it's International Picnic Day?! This Santa Marina basket would be the perfect centerpiece to a picnic date! We imagine it overflowing with fruit, or full of bread and cheese!

From Oklahoma Agriculture In The Classroom:
"The first picnics were fashionable social events similar to what we know today as pot luck dinners. Everyone was expected to contribute something. The practice of holding them outdoors in a beautiful setting came later. The earliest picnics in England were hunting feasts, served as a break from hunting expeditions.

The first known usage in print of the word picnic was the French pique nique. Its origin is unknown but it may be from the French pique, meaning "pick," paired with the nonsense syllable nique, just for the sake of rhyming.

After the French Revolution, in 1789, royal parks became open to the public for the first time. Picnicking in the parks became a popular activity amongst the newly enfranchised citizens. Over time Bastille Day, French Independence Day, became a popular day for picnics."

There's all kinds of stuff happening around the studio right now! Not only have we been getting ready for Boston Mills Artfest, we've also been creating new work for the gallery and expanding our selection of ZM ceramics! If you've been in lately, you may have noticed that we've added more Birds of a Feather plant stakes! These plant stakes are only $35, but they make an eye-catching addition to any potted plant, indoors or out! This custom iris display vase is not for sale, but how cool is it?!

The pieces from the glaze booth feature two different glazing steps in the process of making our Light In The Darkness pattern (pictured fully finished in the kiln), which we introduced late last year and is one of our current favorites! The color palette is bold and bright, but the imagery is peaceful, reflective, and hopeful; we could all use a little light!

We've had this labradorite necklace by Bub's Bling in the gallery for quite some time, and honestly, we're shocked! The way the light shifts the stone from blue to green to grey with little hints of rainbow flickering throughout it feels magical!

From The Crystal Council:
"This mineral was first discovered on the Isle of Paul near the Labrador Peninsula in Canada. It was founded by the Moravian missionary and bears the name from its location. Labradorite is renowned for its mirage of colors and display of Labradorescence. Its flash of colors can contain blue, green, yellow, orange, red, and even purple. This mineral can be found in the United States, Canada, Madagascar, Russia, Norway, and the United Kingdom. In Finland, a variation of Labradorite was discovered that displays the entire color spectrum. This special variety was given the name of Spectrolite.

Unlike most stones, the color displayed from Labradorite does not come from light reflected from the surface of this mineral. Instead, the spectrum of colors that you are seeing is caused by light reflecting off of a twinning surface within the stone. The difference in colors depends on the type of twinning surface that the light is refracting off of."
