📝 ATHICA@Ciné Call for Exhibition Proposals!

ATHICA, in partnership with Ciné, invites visual artists from Athens and the surrounding region to submit proposals for exhibitions in the ATHICA @ Ciné gallery space for the 2027-28 exhibition season.

We welcome proposals for solo, two-person, and small group exhibitions representing a broad range of contemporary artistic practices and perspectives. This call is open to both emerging and established artists.

ATHICA @ Ciné is located in the main hallway of Ciné, 234 W. Hancock Avenue in downtown Athens. The exhibition area consists of approximately 30 linear feet of wall space, with walls approximately 10+ feet high.

Because of the nature of the space, proposed artwork must be two-dimensional or low-relief and suitable for secure wall installation. Painting, drawing, printmaking, photography, collage, mixed media, fiber, and other wall-based practices are encouraged.

The space cannot accommodate freestanding sculpture, video, sound, or artwork requiring electricity. All work must arrive ready to hang or otherwise be readily adaptable to the gallery’s installation requirements.

We encourage proposals that take advantage of the unusual context of Ciné—a highly visible, active public space at the intersection of contemporary art, film, and the Athens community.

Join us tonight at ATHICA from 7-8 pm for Poetry Open Mic! We are thrilled to introduce our new Poetry Intern, Jen Vincent, below. Come out and hear one of her originals and read your own, or share favorite poem!

📝Hello, my name is Jen, and I am the new Poetry Intern at ATHICA! I have always had a deep passion for poetry ever since discovering the 2010s emo phase in my tweens. That love blossomed in my adulthood, where I decided to go to college with a focus in English Literature. I fell in love with poets from Shakespare to Isabella Whitney to Mary Oliver, all of which have had deep influences in my own writing. After learning about ATHICA and the position of poetry intern from a dear friend, I knew I had to be involved somehow. Continuing the tradition of Open Mic Poetry Nights has only deepened my appreciation for the art form, and has helped me develop a strong bond with the Athens community. My favorite poem, of which I can recite from memory, is Ozymandias by Percy Shelley. I hope that if you have a love of poetry and want to get your work in front of an audience, you come to Open Mic Poetry Nights.
