Selling used and rare books, old maps and prints from the 1500s through last year. The Blue Whale sells books, original prints and antiquarian maps.

We have about 20,000 used books, and hundreds of antiquarian and rare books. We also have thousands of original prints form the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries, as well as original maps from as early as the 1500s.

DOGS OF BLUE WHALE BOOKS
Lola! L-O-L-A Lola! She's half Boarder Collie, half Corgi. How could we not lose our hearts to this girl? Lola likes hiking, chasing Frisbees, tug of war, and not listening. Her favorite book is Peter Cottontail. She was rescued when she and her littermates were found in a box in a parking lot. Everyone is now adopted and happy thanks to 4Paws Rescue in northern Virginia.

DOGS OF BLUE WHALE BOOKS
Two Miniature Schnauzers came by tonight. Ollie (on left) is deaf, but he doesn’t let that stop him from soaking up the attention. Greta, on the other hand, loves to soak up the snacks. Her favorite book is Oliver Twist because she always “wants some more.” Ollie prefers Where the Wild Things Are for reasons best left unsaid. Let’s just say when Greta is enjoying snuggles and snacks, Ollie is barking at leaves and eating tree branches. Tonight was Ollie’s first ever walk on the mall, having just been adopted from “Green Dogs Unleashed,” a rescue focusing on special needs dogs. And tonight was Greta’s last mall stroll before surgery in a few days. So everyone keeps good thoughts for Greta!

Dogs of Blue Whale Books

This is Olive, an Irish Jack Russell who hails from the great state of Maine. Olive loves to bark at dogs on TV, chase chipmunks she never catches, go for walks, and lie flat on the grass without moving when an eagle is overhead. Smart girl, Olive.

This is the inimitable Larry. Larry is an older gentleman who likes playing fetch, kids, and his mama, Patricia. He also enjoys making other dogs envious by showing off his leg wings. (Amazing bits of long fur on the back of his legs.) Larry is a big fave whenever he stops in.

DOGS OF BLUE WHALE BOOKS
Samantha (bigger) and Biscuit (smaller) have come a long way to arrive at our bookstore. Little Biscuit was rescued in St. Martin while Samantha grew up in Idaho. They are both full of ENERGY, and it took a random stranger to finally get a shot where both of them were standing still. So thank you, wonderful anonymous person, for being kind enough to take the picture and text it to us. Nothing like dogs and books to bring people together.

Mr. Harry O’Connor trotted into the store the other day (the one without the hat) because if there’s an open door, according to his dad, he goes right through it to say hi whether it’s his house or not. Harry is a three-year-old Miniature Poodle, and his two favorite things are playing with the neighbor kids and going to parties. Harry is the ultimate mingler, the life of any gathering, and the one everyone remembers the next day even without a lampshade on his head.

Bowser is one of our favorite regulars. She is overjoyed to see any human, any time. She doesn’t just wag her tail, she wags her tongue, her ears, and her entire body. Bowser’s mom rarely gets more than ten feet down the mall before someone else stops to say hello. If you’re ever feeling sad, come down to the mall and look for Bowser. She will make you feel like a million bucks.
