Have you wondered where the Museum gets its funding and why your donations are so important? Let’s demystify financials.

Many people think that because we’re the county Museum, we’re operated by or highly funded by local governments. While we submit funding requests to the county and town to consider, overall, the Montgomery Museum receives less than 3% of our total funding from local governments! The Museum's daily operations are funded primarily by donations, grants, fundraising events (such as Heritage Day or our Appalachian Music Concerts), and membership dues.

Your donations end up funding much of what goes on in the Museum - the preservation of our collection of over 20,000 historical artifacts, all of our educational programming, new art and history exhibits, historical research, and of course the salaries for the staff that organize these activities.

At the Montgomery Museum, everything we do is rooted in serving our community, and your support makes that possible. Since moving to Main Street, the museum has grown into a more visible, welcoming, and active space in downtown Christiansburg. From expanded exhibits and educational programs to new partnerships and community events, we are reaching more people than ever before, and continuing to grow.

For Give Local 2026, we have set a goal of $65,000 to sustain and build on this momentum. Every donation directly supports the work that keeps the museum thriving: preserving our collections, creating meaningful exhibits, offering accessible educational programs, and maintaining a space where our community can gather, learn, and connect.

This year, we are also committed to showing you exactly how your support makes a difference. From the cost of archival supplies that protect local history, to improvements that make our building more accessible, your gift has a clear and lasting impact.

Looking ahead, your support will help us take the next steps forward, expanding our garden and connection to Pepper Street, and continuing to improve and restore our historic building. These projects are about more than growth, they are about ensuring that the museum remains an inclusive space for everyone.

Arts❤️NRV 2026 brought together artists, historial places, and community members across
Montgomery County for a multi-day celebration of art and history.

From plein air painting at historic sites, to Wet Paint Night, to the return of the Arts
NRV Market, the week highlighted the creative process from beginning to completion—and the community that makes it possible.

We extend our sincere thanks to all participating artists, visiting guests, and event partners for their support and enthusiasm throughout the week. Our market venue at Eastern Divide Brewing Company could not have been more perfect.

Congratulations to the artists recognized during this year's display, and to all who shared their work during this event! A special exhibit of the plein air artworks created during this event will be on display at the Montgomery Museum in June.

Join the Montgomery Museum for Arts❤️NRV Market TODAY at Eastern Divide Brewing Company, from 12 - 8pm! Arts❤️NRV Market offers artists an opportunity to create, exhibit, and sell their artwork to you, the New River Valley Community.

Plein air artists will spend three days exploring and painting historical sites in Montgomery County. The Market will feature the paintings created by en plein air artists, as well as artisan vendor sales.

Artisan vendors will be selling their work, including pottery, jewelry, photography, paintings and more. Watch demonstrations by artists from Fire and Sky Studio in Radford and the Backyard Stone Carvers to learn about these artistic practices.

Eastern Divide Brewing Company is located 3175 Commerce St, Blacksburg, VA. Make sure to stop in, browse art, and grab a bite to eat!
