🔍Museum Mystery Monday Reveal! 🔎
Last week's item was a close-up of the wing of a Hoary Bat!

The Hoary Bat is Ohio's largest bat. It's found over most of the state in the summer and migrates south in the winter. A beautiful bat; its unusual name derives from the whitish tips on its dark fur.

This week’s winner was Susan M. Guy. Please DM us to claim your prize!

Did we stump you? A new mystery drops next Monday — stay tuned!

For 60 years, Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 has required federal agencies to consider how projects they fund, permit or carry out affect historic properties.

When historic places are destroyed, the loss is permanent.

That's why your State Historic Preservation Office is monitoring potential changes to Section 106 and how it could have lasting consequences in Ohio for historic neighborhoods, buildings, archaeological sites and places of religious and cultural significance to Tribal Nations.

Today, Oct. 12, includes holidays celebrated throughout the United States: Indigenous Peoples Day and Columbus Day.

Here in Ohio, the Ohio History Connection is the steward of many sites created by Indigenous peoples. Their history stretches back thousands of years and continues today through the living cultures, knowledge and sovereignty of Tribal Nations and Indigenous communities.

That's why the Ohio History Connection strives to promote and honor the histories, cultures, knowledge and enduring presence of Indigenous peoples in Ohio and across the continent.

We are grateful for our relationships with Tribal Nations and for the knowledge and perspectives they share as we work together to care for and interpret places of deep significance, including the Hopewell Ceremonial Earthworks.
