DALLAS DESIGN DISTRICT • GALLERY NIGHT!!! - September 19, 2026 @ 5-7pm | 4755 Algiers St., Suite 100, Dallas TX 75207

SAVVYE | Ever Alone (Solo Exhibition)

Pencil on Paper Gallery is delighted to partner with the Dallas Creative Collective (Dallas Creative Collective) to highlight SAVVYE’s (Savvye) second solo exhibition in Dallas!

SAVVYE is a Dallas-based neo-abstract expressionist whose multidisciplinary practice spans painting, drawing, mixed media, photography, sculpture, and writing. A disabled American veteran who served eight years on active duty in the United States Marine Corps, he later earned business degrees from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock and Columbia University Graduate School of Business and a law degree from Cornell Law School before building a career as an attorney. A late autism diagnosis at age 50 helped clarify aspects of the sensory, emotional, and social experience that had long informed an artistic practice he maintained throughout his adult life. Central to his work is WORKING RAGE, the term he coined or the wellspring of pressures human beings have transformed into artistic expression throughout history. His 2026 Dallas solo exhibition of the same name at the Dallas Creative Center presented 131 works to more than 200 guests and accompanied the development of a collaborative initiative intended to expand educational, mentorship, and professional-development opportunities for young adult autistic artists. Few represent the innovative and communal spirit of the Dallas creative scene quite like Temi Coker, (Temi Coker) the 33-year-old multidisciplinary artist who is attracting the attention of global brands and audiences with his vibrant, layered designs that are deeply inspired by his Nigerian heritage.

While the world is calling (and Temi is certainly answering the call), he maintains Dallas as his homebase, running his namesake creative studio, Coker Studio, alongside his wife, Afritina Coker, and raising their children amid one of the most productive and collaborative Black arts scenes in the country. With Mark the Spot, a new travel series from VIBE & Rolling Stone, Temi is taking us along in the 2026 Lincoln NautilusĀ® Hybrid (Lincoln) to show us some of his favorite Black creative spaces throughout DTX. (Dallas Design District)

In ART, the first episode of ā€œMark the Spot,ā€ Temi visits Pencil on Paper, a gallery and educational facility in Dallas’s Design District. The space—dedicated to uplifting and platforming Black art—is driven ā€œby a desire to create intentional opportunities for artists, particularly those deeply invested in storytelling and experimentation,ā€ says gallery director Dr. Valerie Bennett, (Dr. Valerie Bennett) who adds, ā€œI wanted to build a space that could support artists beyond exhibitions by fostering dialogue, community, and creative growth.ā€ Among the artists featured at Pencil on Paper is Dr. Bennett’s husband, painter Emmanuel Gillespie, (Emmanuel Gillespie) whose ā€œJoy and Loveā€ series depicts simple yet deeply profound moments of happiness in various eye-catching shades of blue.

Thank you, Rolling Stone and Temi Coker for this feature! It was such a pleasure meeting y’all! Jenny! Madeleine! Y’all are the best!!!! Much gratitude!

This has been a long time in the making, and we’re so excited to finally share it with you!

Pencil on Paper Gallery is proud to introduce our new collection of Gallery Artist Monographs.

We’ve spent a great deal of time considering how to make art more accessible while honoring the integrity of each artist’s work. The result is a beautiful collection of mini coffee table books, each showcasing the artistry of one of the incredible artists we represent. Each 7ā€ Ɨ 7ā€ and 60 page linen-covered book features custom foil stamping and offers collectors an intimate look into the artists we’re proud to represent. Inside, you’ll find beautifully printed pages on luxurious heavyweight cardstock, designed to be admired and impossible not to touch! Eeek! I get excited just thinking about it! We can’t wait to share these with you! šŸ“–

Thank you, D Magazine!!

Dr. Valerie Bennett Gillespie shares how Dallas’ art scene thrives in scattered pockets rather than one central hub, and what that means for the city’s creative identity.

Curating meaningful exhibitions is one of the most rewarding services we offer.

If you’re interested in learning more about our curatorial services, we’d be happy to share our curatorial portfolio. We love partnering with collectors and institutions to bring collections to life through thoughtful exhibitions that engage and inspire the community. We believe every collection has a story worth sharing, and we’re honored to help bring those stories into conversation with the public.
