Moving the Dr. Sullivan and Mrs. Richie Jean Sherrod Jackson Home from Alabama and restoring it to its condition in 1965 was a multiyear project and a labor of love for The Henry Ford. While the home was still deconstructed awaiting its new location in Greenfield Village, these watercolor illustrations helped our experts visualize how each room would come together.

Gloria Steinem (1934-2026), a pioneering activist and journalist who was at the forefront of the Women’s Rights Movement, died earlier this week. Throughout her career, Steinem's writing covered a broad range of issues — from workplace harassment to the life of Marilyn Monroe.

In 1971, Steinem co-founded “Ms.” magazine, a feminist publication that explores women’s social and political issues. The following year, she became the first woman to speak at the National Press Club. Heavily involved in the feminist movement, Steinem also co-founded the National Women's Political Caucus and championed the passage of the Equal Rights Amendment, testifying before Congress multiple times.

Through her writing, activism and advocacy, Steinem helped shape the national conversation around women’s rights and left a lasting mark on the movement for equality.
