Sloan Museum of Discovery opened July 2022 as a hands on science and history Museum, featuring an onsite cafรฉ and four permanent gallery spaces: Discovery Hall science gallery, Early Childhood Gallery, historic and concept vehicles, and History Gallery. Hagerman Street Early Childhood Learning gallery is an interactive child-sized neighborhood with roundabouts for tricycles, shops, and a charming

three-story tree house. The History Gallery features regional interactive history and historical vehicles, including a Hellcat Tank from WWII and rare collections of vintage and concept cars. The Discovery Hall Science Gallery teaches science with fun, hands-on exhibits like the interactive Great Lakes water table, Earth Globe climbing structure, and 10 other interactives. The Coffee Beanery Cafรฉ offers beverages, sandwiches, salads, and snacks; large gift shop has unique gifts, souvenirs. 4 learning labs & makerโ€™s space. Located on campus of Flint Cultural Center within walking distance of several other entertainment, arts, and educational centers.

In honor of Dolly Parton's Imagination Library program and Literacy Month, the Sloan and Longway Education team has initiated a month-long book drive in September to provide free books to children in addition to our other programs that support literacy. Whether brand new or gently used, please drop off your books at Sloan Museum or Longway Planetarium. Hear more about the book drive from our Education team members Beth, Jacquie, Chris, Presley and Jen. In the immortal words of Dolly: "You can never put too many books in the hands of too many children."

Notice to our guests about a road closure due to road improvements on Robert T. Longway Boulevard beginning on Monday, August 31: Road milling will begin Monday morning at Minnesota Ave and proceed west towards Chavez, just short of the entrance of the Cultural Center. This work will affect traffic at Walnut Street and Robert T Longway Boulevard. If you are coming to Sloan Museum off of I-475, you will be able to access the parking lot off of Longway Blvd. If you are coming westbound from Dort Highway, you will ned to seek an alternate road to East Kearsley St. Intermittent road closures and single-lane traffic are expected as crews move west. Vehicles may travel on the milled surface after each section is completed.

We will provide additional updates as we receive them from the City of Flintโ€™s street maintenance director. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
