NERD NIGHT MANUSCRIPTS OF THE MYSTERIOUS EAST
SEPTEMBER 30th, 7:30 at the THEATRE OF MEMORY

The East is still mysterious, but thanks to Google Translate the manuscripts are no longer mysterious, merely exotic. Come and be amazed that there are scripts even more beautiful than Times New Roman. And whereas the manuscripts of the West were largely accomplished by quills on parchment, these came from reed pens and brushes on various papers – papyrus, mulberry, silk, rice, etc. This one’s a sensory feast as well. Maddy and Suzanne are really enjoying the Calligraphy Club meetings. This month they would like to introduce brush work and will bring blank postcards upon which to calligraph! Experimentation and original alphabets are always encouraged. Materials will be provided. Consider bringing a folio or journal to preserve your beautiful work! I’m hoping that Ted will sing at least a few of my favorites from this great CD! After a career of teaching Medieval and Renaissance Spanish poetry, Ted is no stranger to narrative styles. I suspect that’s why each song he writes and performs is a perfect, sometimes quirky, little gem lasting but a few short minutes. It’s some pretty wonderful stuff and we love his concerts! If there is a super group of songwriters in Gainesville I think my vote would go to High Bridge. You've seen and heard the members for years in different groups and configurations and now they come together as one. Fagan Arouh, Michael Beasley, Alan Hill, and Dan Tampas. SHANA SMITH”S “FLORIDA WILD WOMAN” CONCERT
AUGUST 1st at 7:30 at the THEATRE OF NEMORY

Shana Smith is an author, a teacher and a singer/songwriter, but more importantly, a seeker. I’ve known her for years and loved her positive energy ever since we worked together in the children’s Super Saturday Series presented by Gainesville’s Department of Cultural Affairs. And though I am still allowed to, I’ve practically stopped calling her Shana Banana. I am thrilled that she will be bringing her “Wild Florida Woman” concert to the Theatre of Memory on August 1st at 7:30. What’s more, she’ll be playing with Raihan Alam, a world music percussionist and didgeridoo player. Tickets are available at theatreofmemory.org under EVENTS and seating is limited.

Added to his considerable pedigree, his chord structures and guitar voicings are way beyond the ordinary and they support some very clever lyrics. He’s a gem. Rough cut.
