iDigBio iDigBio is coordinating the national effort to digitize biodiversity specimens and make them available online, funded by NSF grants to UF, FSU, and KU.

Integrated Digitized Biocollections (iDigBio) is the central resource for the Advancing Digitization of Biodiversity Collections (ADBC) program funded by the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF). iDigBio is a collaborative project between the University of Florida and Florida State University, and is based at the Florida Museum of Natural History in Gainesville. Through ADBC, data and images fo

r millions of biological specimens are being made available in electronic format for the research community, government agencies, students, educators, and the general public. The University of Florida, Florida State University, and Florida Museum of Natural History intend to educate, inform, and provide updated information on iDigBio's activities and to support and promote iDigBio's objectives for these activities through its social media. All iDigBio comments are made by iDigBio designees. This site is not a public forum. Social media users may share ideas through commentary that is consistent with and furthers the objectives of an iDigBio post and the University of Florida, Florida Museum of Natural History, and iDigBio reserve the right to remove any comments that do not fall within this purpose.

GBIF North America Webinar: Improving Data Quality at the Source: A Data Quality Toolkit for Biocollections

Abstract: Biocollections data often suffer from data quality issues that arise from the complexities of the digitization and mobilization processes, and these data quality issues can prevent the data from reaching its full potential for research and educational impact. Some data quality issues are complex, others are relatively simple to identify and fix and can provide momentum for further improvements. In this webinar, we will discuss several categories of common data quality issues in biocollections datasets, and we will share a toolbox of data quality checks and fixes that can be easily deployed in collection management systems or spreadsheets.

The Global Biodiversity Information Facility Graduate Researchers Award 2026 is now open for nominations!

This award recognizes graduate students whose research advances biodiversity science using GBIF-mediated data.

Award details:
Two prizes will be awarded, one to a master’s student and one to a PhD student, each receiving €5,000.

Eligibility:
Applicants must be currently enrolled in a master’s or PhD program and either be citizens of a GBIF member country or enrolled at an institution in a GBIF member country.

Please note:
Candidates must be nominated by their country’s GBIF node or delegation. Direct applications are not accepted.

Deadline:
Global nomination deadline is May 29, 2026. National-level deadlines may vary and could be earlier.
