If you haven't already, it's time to register for Thursday's Special Juneteenth Program: Living History with Deric Gilliard.
Join us as Gilliard, an author, activist, and historian, leads us on a journey through the inspiring stories of unsung heroes and ‘sheroes’ of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s nonviolent civil rights movement, highlighting the individuals whose courage and dedication helped shape pivotal moments in American history, including passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965.
A former national communications director for King’s Southern Christian Leadership Conference in the 1990s, Gilliard later served as a public affairs advisor to political appointees across the southeastern United States under multiple presidential administrations. Through personal stories, historical reflections, and images from his work and interviews, Gilliard will explore connections between the civil rights movement and contemporary conversations surrounding voting rights, healthcare access, public policy, and civic engagement in America today.
