In preparation for our Sept. 12–13 events, join us for FREE screenings of Black Patriots: Heroes of the Revolution, a compelling documentary exploring the contributions of Black Americans during the fight for independence.

In celebration of America’s 250th anniversary, the Black Patriots Commemoration Project, in collaboration with the International Civil Rights Center & Museum, will present Unsung Heroes: Black Patriots of the Revolution. It provides a three-day exploration of the often-overlooked African Americans who in pursuit of freedom helped shape our Nation’s independence. Through live performance, film, historical interpretation, and conversation, the weekend brings their stories forward while connecting the ideals of the American Revolution to the broader American story. On Friday, September 11th, our programming is dedicated to students and teachers. Tickets on Saturday and Sunday are open to the public.

The International Civil Rights Center & Museum remembers Dr. Edward B. Fort, a founding member of our Board of Directors whose 33 years of service helped guide the Museum from its earliest years.

Dr. Fort brought a lifetime of experience in education, service, and advocacy to the Museum’s mission, helping preserve the history of the Greensboro Sit-Ins and the place where that history unfolded.

We invite you to learn more about his life, his contributions, and the reflections of those who worked alongside him in our special tribute publication, "A Steward of History: Remembering Dr. Edward B. Fort".

Celebrate Juneteenth at the International Civil Rights Center & Museum with a day of history, creativity, and community. Begin with the Joy, Journey & Jubilee: Juneteenth Opening Ceremony, enjoy hands-on crafts for grades K–5, and experience "A New Beginning", **a living history performance by museum docent Darren Diku McGill. Guests can also attend a screening of "Black Patriots: Heroes of the Revolution" followed by a discussion with Dr. Scott Culclasure and Dr. Deborah Barnes, then meet acclaimed artist Roymeico A. Carter and explore his powerful artwork honoring the contributions of Black Patriots during the American Revolution.

A New Beginning is a theatrical performance directed by Darren Diku McGill and written by Pat Fortune and Jackie Sanders. Featuring a talented ensemble cast, this moving production brings Juneteenth's themes of freedom, resilience, and hope to life through storytelling and performance.

The International Civil Rights Center & Museum, in collaboration with the Latino Community Coalition of Guilford and the Center for New North Carolinians, will present *Immigration Matters: A Conversation on Policy and Law* on June 11, 2026, from 6:00–7:30 p.m. This community educational forum will bring together legal experts and community leaders to discuss the current landscape of U.S. immigration law and policy, including how recent changes impact individuals, families, and communities. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn, ask questions, and engage in meaningful dialogue.
