The vans are taking off! πŸšπŸ’¨ Tomorrow is the last day to view Mario Ayala: Seven Vans!

Ayala’s connection to the automotive community stems from his father, a truck driver, and his own lifelong interest in car customization and lowrider culture. Explore the exhibition one last time and bring your father figure with you!

Mario Ayala: Seven Vans allowed for ample discussion and exploration of identity, car dependency, and the Chicanx art tradition of rasquache through Ayala's highly detailed, airbrushed paintings of the backs of vans. Join us in saying farewell!

Make note of our holiday closure this week. Plan your visits to CAMH accordingly!

🚐 We're approaching the final week of Mario Ayala: Seven Vans! Before the exhibition closes, take one last opportunity to explore the resource space, the most intimate corner of the exhibition.

Filled with the artist's personal zine collection, his curated selection of art books, and the photographic source material behind his paintings, it offers a glimpse into Ayala's process and the visual world that informs his work. Browse issues of RWD (Research While Driving, 2020–present), which capture everyday moments from his life in Los Angeles, including the van silhouettes that became the foundation of this exhibition.

Then grab a pair of headphones and tune into the artist-created playlist on the stacked TVs to hear the music that filled the studio while these works came to life.

Mario Ayala: Seven Vans is on view through Sunday, June 21, 2026. Don't miss it!
