Hudson, NY – 510 Warren Street Gallery is pleased to present a show of the paintings of Hudson Valley artist Trevor Hunter. The exhibition begins on Friday, March 6th and continues until Sunday, March 29th. Visitors are welcome to join the artist for an opening reception on Saturday, March 7th from 3 to 6 pm.

The rolling hills, mountains and winding roads of the Hudson Valley, Trevor Hunter’s home for the last 17 years, provides infinitesimal inspiration for his art making. This is a display of works inspired by both this local experience and those gained from his far flung travels and residences including his life in the Bronx, Manhattan, East Hampton, Africa, Asia and Europe.

Hunter creates abstract compositions in a mixture of acrylic, oil and ink in which he employs an impressive array of mark-making techniques. He adds collage, employing foil to the mix to enrich the textural quality of his surface in the interpretation of his subjects. His process is fluid and fixed to the moments of discovery while painting.

“At some point while applying paint something takes over that’s often unintended. Some call it subconscious. I don’t have a particular name for it. What I do know is, though I may not realize how I got there, I do know when I have a work of art.”

From canvas to canvas, Hunter pulls out all the stops employing a variety of techniques ranging from thick impasto to translucent oil and acrylic washes to linear forms in ink, and juicy area of color applied with a palette knife. His paintings have a sensual tactile appeal that temps one to want to touch as well as savor them visually. With this exhibit, the artist has shared his adventurous life in painting and in the many paths that have inspired it.

New this weekend at 510 Warren Street Gallery is "Kate Knapp: New Works" beginning Friday, February 6 and continuing until Sunday, March 1. Opening reception will be on Saturday, February 14 from 2-6 pm.

Knapp’s new work continues her inspiration from everyday life in the countryside of garden, fields and rivers. She finds beauty in her surroundings, the commonplace and the exquisite natural world by land and by sea. Whatever she chooses to paint, her exploration focuses on color, composition and feeling. Her subject matter, as simple and direct as the landscapes and flowers around her, captures the light inherent in her choice of color. Through the expressive energy of her brushwork, she paints her love of painting and her love for her subjects.

"Platitudes of Color, Forms of Energy": Paintings by Thierry Taule at 510 Warren Street Gallery until February 1.

An emerging artist deeply influenced by a childhood spent amidst expansive landscapes and beautiful estates, channels his lifelong fascination with aesthetics and nature into his vibrant abstract paintings. For Thierry, art represents a personal odyssey of self-expression, striking a delicate balance between control and spontaneity, adult deliberation, and childlike intuition. Grounded in post-war and contemporary art influences, his creations evoke a wide spectrum of emotions, from joy to melancholy, aiming to stir personal memories and provoke individual emotional responses.

Thaule’s connection to nature profoundly informs his artistic process. Outside the studio, he finds solace and inspiration in gardening and the natural world, elements that infuse his artwork with a profound sense of harmony and beauty. This deep bond with nature is evident in the organic forms and vibrant colors that characterize his pieces, inviting viewers to explore the intrinsic link between the natural environment and human emotion.

Thierry J. Taule, born in the USA to French parents, is a versatile artist from Danbury, CT, based in Latham, NY. With a background in geography and atmospheric sciences from the State University of New York, his art is inspired by natural beauty and phenomena, such as lush gardens or the erosive process of materials uncovering their structural past. A self-taught artist, Taule’s creative journey began when he encountered Helen Frankenthaler at age 16, whose art and personality left an indelible mark on him. While initially inspired by her work, he developed his distinctive style, after a long period of exploration, using a mix of acrylic, latex, and found objects. Recently, he began a series of works made of clear glue and dye crystals. Taule's work explores colors, shapes, and textures, aiming to evoke a spectrum of emotions. His unique approach celebrates the hidden beauty in mechanical parts, offering viewers a glimpse into his creative journey and the joy of artistic freedom.
