Have you spent time contemplating your 2025 New Year's resolutions? Perhaps the lovely woman musing upon a pristine snow covered landscape outside her window can show us the way. Francis Criss (1901-1973) painted "Winter Morning" in the late-1930's. This work was exhibited and sold at NYC's prestigious Associated American Artists gallery (1934-2000). Criss was associated with the Precisionist movement, and the appearance of figures in his exceptionally well crafted artworks is a rarity. Perhaps one of your resolutions is to add to your art collection in 2025. This exceptional painting is certainly worthy of consideration!

When in Rome! New major Mary Obering (1937-2022) exhibit now on view through 2/22/2025. “The scientific approach to life, and its impossibilities, led me to become an artist.” Meanwhile, back in Hudson, our exceptional and rare tondo from 1983 (oil/gold leaf, 20" x 20") is available to the discerning collector. The artist’s minimalist geometric abstractions won praise with top gallery representation, collectors, top galleries, and critics such as Holland Cotter, who in 1995 wrote of Obering’s work: “It produces an unexpected emotional pull.” Inquiries welcome.

A new and magnificent painting by David Bierk (American/Canadian 1944-2002). Bierk's 2002 New York Times obituary noted the artist's pointedly postmodern work, which was inspired by Old Master artists like Vermeer or the Hudson River School painter Frederic Edwin Church, bridged our contemporary world with that of the giants of the past.

In the third of four major posthumous solo exhibitions at NYC's prestigious Nancy Hoffman Gallery in 2005, influential critic Donald Kuspit wrote of Bierk: "Bierk was an artist, an increasingly rare breed these post-artist days, when the boundary between life and art -- the everyday and the sublime, as it were -- have become blurred at the expense of art, as though the sublime has no meaning and place in everyday life, certainly not in everyday modern life, where sublime experiences seem rare and irrelevant."

Our work was painted in 1989 on Lake Champlain in St. Albans, Vermont. The inscription verso reads "St. Albans Dusk, Pthalo Lake" with pthalo being a pigment color meaning "blue/green". Art critic Jonathan Goodman wrote that Bierk's landscape paintings were "marvelously romantic."

Oil on canvas, 28 x 42 inches, signed lower right. Signed, dated, titled verso on stretcher. Pristine condition with original frame.

This artwork is new to the market, has excellent provenance, and is a masterful example of Bierk's transcendent landscape painting poetry. Inquiries welcome.
