SGC International

SGC International SGC International is a nonprofit dedicated to the art of printmaking. South, we have grown over the years into the nation’s largest organization of printmakers.

SGC International is an educational non-profit organization committed to informing our membership about issues and processes concerning original prints, drawings, book arts, and handmade paper. Significant dialogue and exchange of technical and critical information occurs each year at our annual conference, which draws participants nationally and internationally. Our awards, publications and exhib

itions promote greater understanding, scholarship, and enjoyment of these art forms to the public at large. Originally formed as Southern Graphics Council, a regional organization for educators of print in the U.S. We now have representatives internationally, and in 2010 changed our name to SGC International to reflect this broader scope. While the SGC International mission focuses on printmaking, we welcome everyone interested in advancing the dialogue of art, its education, and its processes.

My first SGCI was in Madison, Wisconsin in 2022, when I had just started graduate school. I was still learning how to navigate both the studio and the field at large, and walking into that conference was like stepping into an entirely new world. Suddenly, I was surrounded by printmakers of every background, sharing their knowledge, their processes, and their passion.
It was more than just panels and demos — it was the feeling of community, of realizing that I was part of something much bigger than myself. That first experience gave me both inspiration and confidence, and it has continued to shape the way I think about my practice and my teaching. SGCI has become a space I look forward to every year — a chance to learn, to connect, and to keep growing alongside this incredible community.

Print For All is here for you!

With the guidance of the DEIA Committee, SGCI introduced Print For All. PFA is an initiative which builds equity and opportunity for historically marginalized and underrepresented print people.

The campaign has evolved—as promised!—to fit the need of our membership. Members may now request aid and/or accommodation at any time via a new form in our website. The DEIA Committee will review requests regularly. This method allows maximum flexibility for the organization to meet the specific needs of our print community. You can find a request form, and help support Print For All here, at any time here.

Myles Calvert and Mika Aono .aono from Atelier Ghostbirds statement for the jurying:

“As jurors for Border-line(s), we were struck by the breadth and depth of responses to the call. The theme invited artists to approach boundaries in all their forms—geographic, emotional, psychological, and cultural—and the submissions reflected this with remarkable sensitivity and imagination. Choosing only sixteen works from such a strong and diverse pool was a difficult task. Many pieces spoke with quiet intensity or deep introspection, while others approached the subject with wit, experimentation, or gentle mischief.

We found ourselves drawn to artists who treat boundaries less like rigid fences and more like curious, unruly lines—ones that smudge, wander, and sometimes refuse to stay put. The selected works span a wide range of printmaking practices, traditional and experimental, each interrogating or embracing the idea of limits in its own way. Together, they chart a terrain where edges blur, meanings shift, and the in-between emerges as a potent space for reflection, questioning, and possibility.

It is an absolute joy and an honor to share this body of work at Atelier Ghostbirds in Caldas da Rainha, within a community that thrives on dialogue and creative exchange. For many of these artists, the exhibition marks a first encounter with new viewers and new landscapes, bridging continents and perspectives through the language of printmaking. We hope these works continue to spark conversations about borders: how they define, divide, and ultimately connect us.”
