A hat shop decorated with military flair? Why not? So thought Robsjohn-Gibbings as seen here in the John-Frederics showroom he designed in the late 1930s—complete with a cannon. Carmen Miranda poses in 1940 for Vogue. 📸 Anton Bruehl

I am off to spend the entire week with Gibby, aka T.H. Robsjohn-Gibbings, via his archives housed at the in DC. What a treat to throw myself into the ruthlessly elegant world of this genius. Here’s hoping a smidge of his rapier wit will rub off.

A few scenes from a Maine project we worked on last year for a wonderful family. We love discovering and melding the taste of each client with the architecture of the house and what they already own. For this client, a tailored New England look with a bit of Belgian breeziness and a dash of Colefax & Fowler English Country House was the perfect mix for this very active household where children, dogs and a cat are romping and lounging everywhere. A new exciting chapter has taken them to sunnier climes before all was completed - it will be so fun to place these pieces taking a new attitude in their new home.

A glimpse of our tabletop for celebrating the who give so much beauty to the city with their Park Avenue plantings. 🌷 This year, there are thirteen tables and each table designer was assigned an American colony to inspire. Well, I can’t lie and I apologize North Carolina! - but I decided to indulge my fantasy of keeping hens (which my husband has forbidden) with these silver roosters (they didn’t have silver hens) from which I paired with ‘s Chanticleer pattern which I had never seen before! Porcelain egg salt and peppers also by and candy corn strewn for the roosters’ enjoyment add a little humor - as well as the fox who is waiting for his moment. crystal glasses and dishwasher-friendly stainless steel flatware by Ricci round out the settings. The tables are up for a few weeks so we skirted the flower dying issue by placing a gorgeous crystal Baccarat candelabra in the center. Sadly FedEx didn’t deliver the lavender candles in time so just imagine that, if you will. Speaking of skirting, I was thrilled to be able to reuse this tablecloth which is an homage to Deeda Blair. A friend once advised to have as many tablecloths as you can and it really add so much! We are so grateful to who are just a few steps away from Scully and Scully for kindly lending us the gorgeous linen placemats and napkins. Do stop by if you are in the neighborhood to see all the tables - I promise it will give a boost to see all the beauty and creativity at play.
