Join us on October 27 for the CF Ira Holmes International Film Series screening of “The Emigrants” (PG, Sweden, 1971, 2h 31m) in the auditorium at 2 p.m. The first of a two-film epic by Jan Troell, the story charts the voyage of a Swedish farming family who journey to settle in America.

It’s that time of year! Here’s a sneak peek as we begin the month-long process of transforming the entire museum for the holiday season.

Why do we start so early? Well, the Dickens Village alone has hundreds of small pieces that make up the display in the education rotunda, in addition to all the community partner Christmas trees, Santa Clauses, and nutcrackers – it’s a lot to do before everything is completed in time for the November 7 Free First Saturday!

Come enjoy the holiday splendor and the ever-popular “A Dickens Christmas: The Urban Family's Holiday Exhibition” November 7-January 10.

¡Qué increíble noche! We had a blast at College Park Elementary’s “Viajando por el Mundo Hispano” (“Traveling Through the Hispanic World”). This annual school event celebrates the flavors, art, traditions and diversity of Hispanic countries. We're proud to partner with College Park, one of our community partner schools through United Way. Thank you for having us and thank you to Marion Cultural Alliance for their generous support.

Today we’re honoring the 111th birthday of museum founder Arthur I. Appleton, who was born on this day in 1915. The son of Swedish industrialist Albert Appleton, founder of Appleton Electric Company in Chicago, Mr. Appleton grew up surrounded by art and became a collector himself. His love of horses eventually brought him to Ocala, Florida, where he established Bridlewood Farm, a thoroughbred operation that bred more than 90 stakes winners. In 1987, the Appleton Museum of Art opened its doors, with works from Mr. Appleton’s personal collection forming the foundation of the museum’s permanent collection. Today, continuing his legacy of arts for all, more than 95% of the works in the collection have been gifted to the museum.

Help us celebrate Mr. Appleton’s legacy with FREE admission all week through this Sunday, October 18. Over the years, more than 2 million visitors have experienced the museum and we hope you’ll be one of them this week!

Storytime is our favorite time, especially when there’s art involved! Families had a fun time at our Museum & Me class earlier this week, led by Ruth Dexheimer. We love to see how much are youngest students grow!

Enjoy FREE admission all next week! 🎉 October 13–18 is Founder's Week, honoring the birth date of museum founder Arthur I. Appleton (1915–2008). Celebrate his enduring legacy with a visit to see the permanent collection, special exhibitions, and Artspace on us.

Hours are Tuesday–Saturday, 10 a.m.–5 p.m. and Sunday 10 a.m.–noon.
