“It’s not often that we can stand in the presence of a diocesan priest that's been beatified,” said priest of the Diocese of Baton Rouge at today's Mass.

Bishop Michael Duca and three priests of the Diocese of Baton Rouge made a pilgrimage to the shrine this week, and all celebrated the daily Mass during their time at the shrine. Joined with them were four seminarians of the diocese.

Rev. Michael Gerard is the director of vocations, Very Rev. Reuben D***s is the director of seminarians and Rev. Joshua Johnson is the director of the Blessed Stanley Rother House of Formation, named after Blessed Stanley Rother.

Today, during Fr. Joshua’s homily, he reflected on both the lives of Blessed Stanley Rother and St. Phillip Neri, whose feast we celebrate today. “It’s not often that we can stand in the presence of a diocesan priest that been beatified,” Fr. Joshua said, as he was giving his homily next to the tomb of Blessed Stanley Rother.

These men of faith journeyed from miles away, but their hearts were close to the story of Blessed Stanley Rother, especially in their focus on the vocation of the priesthood.

Thanks to the clergy and seminarians for making a pilgrimage to the shrine! We hope to see them again soon!

Come visit us, we are open!

God of power and mercy,
you destroy war and put down earthly pride.
Banish violence from our midst and wipe away our tears,

Keep in your mercy those men and women
who have died in the cause of freedom
and bring them safely
into your kingdom of justice and peace.

We will have expanded confessions, with all four confessional rooms available for reconciliation from 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.! Be welcomed and visit us on your day off from work! The gift shop, museum and theater will be open to all visitors.

Mass 12:15 p.m. in the chapel

Pilgrim Spotlight ⛪️🌟: Fr. Rufino Corona, a T.O.R. friar at Franciscan University of Steubenville visited the shrine today for the first time, a trip he had been wanting to make after speaking with Archbishop Paul Coakley at the 2023 Franciscan University Baccalaureate Mass, where Coakley celebrated the Mass and spoke to Rufino about Blessed Stanley Rother. Today, Rufino unexpectedly reunited with a staff member of the shrine, an alum of Franciscan University.

A Catholic world so vast, yet so small, and bringing big blessings!

Angelica, nutrition college student, shares her takeaway after visiting the Blessed Stanley Rother Shrine with a group of students brought by Dominican friars from Texas Tech University.

“Reading about how the children over there [Guatemala] wouldn’t make it past the age of 5 because of certain circumstances, such as malnutrition, and learning how Stanley Rother was able to help construct a hospital that had a specialized center for nutrition really inspired me. I’m definitely going to take that home with me.”
