If you've visited SCCM, you've probably seen Ms. Ruby welcoming in families, leading spontaneous story times, and helping children discover the joy of play. She's one of the friendly faces helping make the museum a joyful place to play every day. And after the museum closes, she's one of the people making sure our space is clean and ready for another day of adventure. We're so lucky to have Ms. Ruby on the SCCM Team!

Play and story time have more in common than you might think.

When children listen to a story, they're imagining new worlds, solving problems alongside characters, and making connections to their own experiences. When they play, they bring those same skills to life: exploring ideas, practicing communication, building confidence, and making sense of the world around them.

One of our favorite things at the museum is watching an impromptu story time unfold. A caregiver opens a book, a staff member shares a favorite tale, or a group of children gathers around a story together. Those moments often spark the next big adventure in play.

This Saturday, we're celebrating the connection between stories and play with a special story time featuring the creators of Kitty Caterpillar! Join us for a reading, meet the authors, and then spend the day exploring, imagining, and playing together.

Because every great story is really an invitation to play. 📚✨

Marissa Wasseluk joined SCCM as the new Marketing Manager earlier this year. You may not see Marissa on the museum floor every day, but she's working behind the scenes to share the magic of SCCM with families across our community. From social media and newsletters to special events and storytelling, Marissa helps connect families with all the ways children can learn through play.

We welcome children and families of all abilities. Play for All Abilities hours take place the last Thursday of every month from 12:00-3:00 PM. Join us tomorrow for dedicated play hours welcoming families and children with developmental differences.

Can’t make it during Play for All Abilities hours? Our sensory backpacks are available any day of the week as a free daily rental, ask a staff member at check-in!
