Don’t you just love the elegant dainty wings of the Karner Blue Butterfly? Or the striking brilliance of the Gold-Winged Warbler?

Wait a moment.

Artist Jaron Childs didn’t actually draw these creatures; he only made the tags. There’s a greater message at play as these hand-drawn tags on display note endangered species in Wisconsin that are on the verge of being extinct.

This powerful message makes viewers stop and think, “Should something be here?” and begs the question if are keeping a watchful eye out for these endangered species so they can be enjoyed for generations to come.

Be sure to stop by The Ruralists exhibit to see this display for yourself before it goes extinct!

“I see my drawing practice as one of attention, similar to mindfulness meditation. At a time when our attention is being bought and sold, I am making a practice of directing mine back to the living world.”

These wise words are by Jaron Childs, an artist who resides outside of Tomahawk, Wisconsin. His paintings and drawings of the natural world have been shown in both solo and group shows at galleries and museums in the United States and Europe. Be sure to catch Jaron’s work this weekend during your final few chances to see The Ruralists on display now in the main gallery.
