Black-led galleries & spaces championing underrepresented artists need more than applause. A thriving cultural landscape requires sustained collective investment and infrastructure.

NEO NEXUS: Connecting the Spectrum returns, this time at Chromophore for a community roundtable and think tank focused on practical solutions for a stronger, more interconnected creative ecosystem.

How do we grow audiences, cultivate collectors, build partnerships, and create long term viability?

Artists, collectors, curators, cultural workers, patrons, and everyone invested in Richmond’s creative community, your input matters.

What does freedom look like to you?

This First Friday, Chromophore is joining Fall of Freedom with a simple invitation: come add your voice to THIS IS WHAT FREEDOM LOOKS LIKE.

Write it. Draw it. Leave a message. Our Community Art Board and postcard installation will grow throughout the evening with your thoughts on freedom, expression and what matters to you.

Then from 7:30 - 8:00PM, the floor is yours. Step up for our Open Mic + Soapbox with a poem, song, spoken word, reflection or simply something you need to say.

No elaborate production. Just art, community and the freedom to express yourself.

Rich Blue Hues everywhere you look, both inside & outside the gallery walls.

Curation here at Chromophore lives in the details: the objects, textures, books and unexpected touches throughout the space that deepen the storytelling and carry the theme of the exhibition.

Come experience Rich Blue Hues in person. Take your time, look closely and notice the many shades of blue. The exhibition is on view through October 31st, Wednesday-Saturday 2-6pm.

Remember when you were a kid and actually looked forward to painting in class? When making art was just about having fun, getting a little messy and seeing what happened?

We’re bringing that feeling back with Paint What You Will at Chromophore.

Every Wednesday in October, drop in after work, grab some paint and make whatever you feel like making. No rules. No pressure. No “I’m not an artist.” Come solo, bring a friend, decompress and create. We provide the supplies.

Every Wednesday in October | 5:30–7 PM
Chromophore Artspace | 309 N. Adams St.
Sliding scale: $10–15

Part of Artober RVA PWYW (Pay What You Will) series, presented by CultureWorks.

Come play with paint again.
