Weave your story into art and community at this Saturday's Fleece & Fiber Festival at Hallockville (6038 Sound Avenue in Riverhead).

Join sculptor and fiber artist Sherry Davis for United We Weave: Community Weave-In, a patriotic collaborative project where participants will help weave a large American flag made from repurposed fire hose.

Davis is best known for "Harvesting Memories in Blue," the iconic 12-foot geodesic denim sphere that was displayed on Sound Avenue in Riverhead.

Visitors of all ages are warmly invited to help weave the flag and attach their personal messages — creating a living tribute woven together by the community.

You can also learn about her upcoming major public sculpture, "Grateful Turnout," (which has been supported by a grant from the New York State Council on the Arts). This work, created using repurposed first responder gear, honors firefighters and first responders. Donations of used first responder gear are actively being accepted.

Step back in time and explore the rich history of fiber arts at the Fleece & Fiber Festival at Hallockville Museum Farm, happening at 6038 Sound Avenue in Riverhead.

Begin your journey inside the historic Hallock Homestead, where you’ll discover the important role fiber played in the daily lives of the Hallock family and other North Fork farming families. Guests will even venture up to the attic to view the family’s original barn loom.

The tour then continues to the Homestead Barn for a special presentation with Kathryn Wojciechowski — owner of Old School Wool and Weaving Center in South Otselic, NY, Director of the CNY Flaxseed to Fabric Initiative, and leader of the Heritage Cloth Makers Guild. Kathryn will share the fascinating history of flax and linen production, discuss the growing movement to revive heritage cloth making, and explore how these traditions are once again taking root in our region.

Join us for a unique look at Long Island’s agricultural and textile heritage during this year’s Fleece & Fiber Festival!
