When students enter Coastal Heritage Society museums, classroom lessons turn into hands-on discovery, real-world connections, and moments that stick long after the field trip ends.

“We bring our students to Savannah Children’s Museum every spring as an integral part of our unit on pollinators. The Busy Bee program is an exceptional complement to classroom learning: engaging, hands-on, and curriculum-aligned...The combination of thoughtfully designed programs and welcoming, skilled staff makes Savannah Children's Museum an invaluable field trip destination. It provides memorable, high-impact learning that reinforces classroom instruction and inspires a lasting interest in science and discovery; reasons we will continue to return year after year.”

- Christine Bartlam
Kindergarten Teacher at Tybee Island Maritime Academy

Across all six Coastal Heritage Society sites, educators like Christine are using museum experiences to turn curriculum into something students can see, touch, and remember.

These programs are only possible with community support. Your contribution helps support museums as educators and helps ensure students across our region continue to experience high-impact learning beyond the classroom.

On display right now: Cannon just like those used during the Battle of Savannah in the Revolutionary War.

The replicas will have some authentic company this Summer, when the cannons discovered in the Savannah River will go on display.

It's all part of our Loyalists & Liberty exhibit that will open to mark America 250!

You may notice some changes during your next trip to Savannah History Museum!

Our team is hard at work rearranging displays, like these original pieces of the 19th-century Casimir Pulaski Monument, to prepare for the installation of our upcoming exhibition, Loyalists & Liberty: Savannah in the American Revolution.

You can still explore Savannah's rich history each day and engage with our historical interpreters. The museum is open daily from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. chsgeorgia.org/SHM

Our new Loyalists & Liberty exhibit opens in July, but Savannah History Museum has always told the story of our city's role in the Revolutionary War.

Today, historical interpreters at Old Fort Jackson fired three cannons in succession to welcome America’s tall ship, the USCGC Eagle, as it arrived in Savannah.

Coastal Heritage Society CEO Nora Fleming Lee was honored to be among the honorary guests aboard the vessel as it passed the national landmark on the Savannah River.

Pair your visit to Old Fort Jackson this weekend with a stop on River Street to tour the Eagle during its 2026 summer training tour honoring America’s 250th anniversary. Savannah is the first stop on the tour.

The ship will be docked near the World War II Monument on River Street. Public tour hours of America's only active square-rigger are:

Friday, May 8: 2-7pm
Saturday, May 9: 10am-4:30pm
Sunday, May 10: 10am–7pm

Old Fort Jackson is open daily from 9am-4pm. Daily cannon firings, historical weapons demonstrations, and activities for all ages.
