This is an original Terry Taillefer photograph of the birthing cave, located off the tracks of long canyon, Sedona. It was taken at Christmas day and holds a marvelous view of the canyon and distant red rocks. The lush green foliage is home to a variety of diverse plants. The robust red texture of the cave and the land itself is due to the iron having rusted during the Paleozoic era when Arizona was under water. Even in the distance one can see the red rocks shifting to white as the altitude increases, presenting us with an estimation of the sea line's location. The higher levels are more white because they weren't exposed tot he sea water the way the lower levels were.
