Everyone knows the broad story of how the American colonies fought for—and won—their independence from Great Britain. But what happened right here in Southold during the American Revolution.
On Wednesday, November 4, 2026, from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m., Southold Historical Museum invites the community to join Amy Folk, Southold Town Historian, for an engaging look at Southold during the Revolutionary War. The free program will take place at the Maple Lane Campus, 55200 Main Road, Southold.
The program is free, but RSVPs are requested.

Enjoy an afternoon of music in a truly memorable setting when the United States Coast Guard Academy Cadet Chorale performs at Horton Point Lighthouse Nautical Museum on Sunday, October 25, from 1–2:30 p.m.
Set against the historic lighthouse and Long Island Sound, this FREE concert will feature a mix of anthems, folk songs, memorial music, and sea shanties—a fitting program for this historic maritime setting.
The Cadet Chorale is a select ensemble of Coast Guard Academy cadets that performs at venues throughout the country and at historic locations along the East Coast. This is a special opportunity to hear these talented young musicians at one of Southold’s most distinctive historic sites.

A special thank-you to an anonymous volunteer who generously built this beautiful display stand for one of Southold Historical Museum’s paintings.
The stand was made specifically to showcase A Dull Day, painted in 1886 by Benjamin Rutherfurd Fitz (1855–1891) of Peconic. Fitz was the son of noted photographer Henry Fitz Jr., and the painting was exhibited at the 58th Annual Exhibition of the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in 1888.
Southold Historical Museum purchased A Dull Day at auction through Skinner Auctioneers in 2011. We are grateful to the skilled volunteer whose time and craftsmanship have given this important work such a fitting presentation.

Southold Historical Museum invites artists to participate in its upcoming Ten Squared online exhibit and sale titled, Season of Wonder: Art Inspired by Beauty, Curiosity, and Joy.
This non-juried exhibition welcomes all mediums and accepts up to three 10” x 10” works per artist. Each piece will sell for $100, with proceeds split equally between the artist and Southold Historical Museum.
Finished works and submission forms are due November 2–13. The online exhibit and sale runs December 1–18, 2026, just in time for holiday shopping.

We recently got in this charming deck of cards in its original box! The Oracle of Fortune is a game that promised to guide you to wealth and success! This deck of cards is circa 1851 and was possibly paired with a book that helped readers with “mystical methods and planetary alignments’ to find their fortune and destiny. 🌙

History in the Making Golf Tournament 2026. Thanks to all who participated and made the event possible!
