Music on Main is almost here, and we need your help!

We’re looking for volunteers for our first Music on Main of the season on Saturday, June 6th. Whether you can help with setup, during the event, or with cleanup afterward, we’d love to have you join us.

Volunteer opportunities include:

• Setup Crew – Help prepare Main Street before the event begins
• Event Support – Assist throughout the evening as needed
• Breakdown Crew – Help with cleanup and packing up after the event

Music on Main is made possible by volunteers who donate their time to help create a fun and welcoming experience for our community and visitors. Every helping hand makes a difference.

Step into the rich traditions of Appalachia this summer with CAST Camp — Creative Appalachian Skills & Traditions Camp!

The Alleghany Arts Council is excited to co-sponsor this unique hands-on experience with Alleghany JAM, where kids can explore the creativity, craftsmanship, and heritage that make our mountain community so special.

Campers ages 9 and up will have the opportunity to learn traditional skills including:
• Jam making
• Biscuit baking
• Butter churning
• Quilting
• Foraging
• Paper making
• Pottery crafting

Fridays in July | 9 AM – 12 Noon
July 3, 10, 17, 24, & 31
Alleghany JAM House
360 N. Main Street, Sparta

Cost:
$20 per session or $100 for all 5 sessions
Reduced fees and scholarships are available because we believe every child should have access to the arts and traditional skills.

This is such a wonderful opportunity for young people to connect with Appalachian heritage through creativity, storytelling, and hands-on learning.

Getting more Egg Geodes ready. Some of the colors are being tested as well. The dyes react to the alum and create something different sometimes. The really black one is actually Gold. The smoky quartz looking one is supposed to be Dark Green. So, we won't be using those in the future.
