Our interim Executive Director, Lynn Davis, was recently in conversation with Aaron Dorfman, founder of A More Perfect Union, and Nomi Joyrich, Michigan Director for Jews for a Secular Democracy, to talk about state-level election engagement in advance of the midterms.

Arizona and Michigan may be two very different regional contexts but one thing is the same: trusted local organizations are out there building relationships, encouraging civic participation, and strengthening democratic resilience during these challenging times.

We are remembering Dr. Barry Friedman, z"l, who served as our Board President from 2006-2015. Former Board President Barry Kirschner shared these words:

"Jewish Museum of Tucson and Holocaust History Center became what it is today in large part thanks to the efforts of Dr. Barry Friedman. He was unique, or almost unique, in his generosity and how he took a deep dive into the history of our Jewish population in Tucson and the Southwest. Barry became the amateur historian who helped teach us what is now on display at our museum. During and before the transition that resulted in our modern Holocaust History Center, Barry was much of the glue that kept the efforts on track. He donated knowledge, energy, and time as well as money. His is a key name in the history of our community and our Jewish history museum."

May his memory be a blessing.

We are pleased to welcome Pima County Recorder Gabriela Cázares-Kelly and Pima County Elections Director Constance Hargrove for an important conversation about the upcoming elections.

This in-person program will cover anticipated threats to the midterms and how best to counter election interference, while also uncovering who is feeling most vulnerable in this moment and why our vote matters more than ever.

Recorder Cázares-Kelly and Deputy Hargrove will explain their roles and responsibilities, outline the safeguards and procedures that protect election integrity, and answer any questions you have about election security.

Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, is different than January 1st. There is no countdown, no list of resolutions. Instead, we enjoy apples and honey, round challah, and we say hineni: here I am, ready to begin again. It is a moment to take stock of how far we have come and to open ourselves to the possibilities that may come next. It is also a time for teshuva, a return to our best selves.

At TJMHC, we are custodians and interpreters of the Jewish community's history in Southern Arizona, decades of tradition and contribution, told through a Jewish lens. With the help of local survivors and educators, we teach the Holocaust not as a closed chapter, but as a way of understanding what happens when antisemitism and identity-based hatred go unchecked.

None of this work happens without you -- our staff, our board, our docents, and our supporters -- who make this work possible every single day.

We wish you Shana Tova u'Metuka - a happy and sweet new year - and hope to see you at the museum one day soon.
