Happy Fathers’ Day! We wish a wonderful day to all the fathers who inspire us, teach us their crafts, and do everything they can to give their kids a good life, even if, like the Albright twins, those kids rebel:). This is a photograph of Adam Emory Albright holding a painting he painted of his gifted twin sons, Ivan and Malvin, pictured with him. The boys worked their entire artist careers to be as different from their father’s artistic style as they could, and the contrasts are clear.

Today the museum is closed so staff and volunteers can celebrate the day, but we will be back open on Wednesday for normal hours.

Today is Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day. Thanks to the Warrenville Public Library District for sharing these great resources about this Federal Holiday and its history.

Juneteenth is a holiday celebrated throughout the United States, especially by Black Americans, on June 19th. Also known as Freedom Day or Emancipation Day, the holiday commemorates the ending of slavery in the United States.

The library is open today. Visit and ask a librarian for information about Juneteenth. WPLD cardholders can also learn more about the significance of Juneteenth by reading articles and books in our free online database system. Through the link in the Comments, enter your library card number and PIN (last 4 digits of your phone), and type in Juneteenth in the search bar.

We were very sad to learn about the recent passing of longtime Museum volunteer Marmae Haight. Marmae not only helped out as a docent and donated many local items to our collection, but also was a wonderful artist who lent her talents to local history!

Marmae took classes from Mildred Baldwin and when Leone Schmidt was writing her Warrenville history books, Marmae created illustrations to capture Warrenville in the 1850s and 1860 for “In and Around Historic Warrenville.” We are grateful to have these pieces of Warrenville history in our collection, preserving Marmae's dedication and talents as a lasting tribute to her life.

Information shared by her niece Wendy Haight Clark: Marmae passed peacefully on June 13. She is survived by her daughter Margaret Miller, Her son-in-law Tom Miller, Her Grandkids Kate Rawson and Aaron Haight and Her great grandkids, Lincoln and Elliot. She is proceeded in death by Her Husband Hally Her Son Hally, Her Son Michael. We will post again when we know the information about Her memorial. She did a lot for Warrenville and was a resident many years. She also was an amazing artist. She was a Great Teacher’s aid at Bower for many many years and the Greatest Mother and Aunt.

Thanks to everyone who stopped by our table at the Multicultural Festival yesterday! It was great to talk with so many of you and the historic fun continues today with our Stationery Sunday Drop-in from 12-3pm!
