Today we are highlighting the words of Tara Parsons as she remembers the day of 9/11

"I remember exactly the entire events of that day, September 11th. 25 years have flown by in the flash of an eye; all our world was changed by that day. I remember precisely where I was and the whole day still. My son was 17 months old. We
went to a weekly play group activity at the local library as we did and, on that day, it was no different. It was our usual walk to and from. I took my time strolling him back as it was an exceptionally gorgeous end of summer day. The sun was shining but it wasn't a hot sun. Beautiful clear blue skies (I know now they call it severe clear) I couldn't help but notice. All the while there were different kinds of sky happening
at the same time with chaos and buildings falling. This was a time in life with no cell phone or anything other than a land line at home along with an answering machine blinking with several messages on it that I hadn’t gotten to until a bit later after coming home. I turned on the TV to PBS for a usual morning at home to head to a nap and settled into listen to the messages. Then the phone rang. “Are you watching
the news??” “No, Ive got on Sesame Street why would I be watching the news?” “Well turn it on, the world is ending" I heard that it was the World Trade Center, but my mind went to Boston instead of NY at first. And then I watched and saw that it wasn't here, but the planes had come from Logan. Watching what was unfolding, we all attempted to digest all that was happening in the world around us on September 11th. We never saw it coming. It all stays in our minds and mine still. That tragic day of a Tuesday in September changed everyone in so many ways and continues to, a quarter of a century later. Tara Parsons Nine Eleven twenty-five years later"

This piece by artist Linda Naclerio is in collaboration with Mike Patterson who wrote these striking words.

"For the past 25 years, I’ve been disturbingly fascinated with the photo of the falling man from 9/11. I’ve always wondered what he was thinking. Was he hoping to be saved somehow? When Wave Gallery requested submissions for a 9/11 exhibition,
my mind immediately went to the falling man. I wanted to convey my feelings of trauma, anxiety, and concern for this man and others who jumped from the towers that day. But I could not find a medium to accurately express the mixture of feelings that are brought up in me when I see that photo. Then this year on 9/11 I read a post on Facebook by Mike Patterson that tells how he observed a lady in a pink suit jumps from the twin towers. His post was so comprehensively traumatic, sad, angry, and loving, and it perfectly captured the mix of feelings I struggle with. I understood exactly the image I wanted to create. With Mike’s generous permission, I have included his post in my work."

"I was born and educated in Armenia. I pursued my graduate studiesat the College
of Arts and Professional Dance and Music in Moscow. My educational background in
America was at Quinsigamond College and Becker College in Worcester. I was a star
ballerina and traveled with a dance company to Europe, South America, the Middle East and another country. Now that I’m not working, I enjoy life with my hobbies like: drawing, painting, making jewelry, flowers, knitting and reading. Several years ago I started drawing, painting and it changed my life, making me feel peace, joy and love."

These works are by artists Lisa Murphy who has been a featured artist with the Wave Gallery for years now. We are so pleased to be featuring her pieces in our current show "After Impact"!

"Sadness", Canvas, paper, and acrylics with magnetic hanger system, 24” x 36”, $300
"Worry", Canvas, paper, and acrylics with magnetic hanger system, 24” x 36”, $300

"My pieces Worry and Sadness reflect some of the emotions I felt during my visit to the 9/11 Museum about 5 years ago. It was a solemn and frightening reminder that the world has flaws, and we must exist in it.

Lisa is exploring a lens that is ever evolving to accept the new and varied experiences of her life as a Gay, Black, disabled woman in Boston, MA. She has found expressions in acrylic mono printing, collage, silhouettes, and mark making. Her ability to intuitively create engaging visual works continues to become more refined. Ms. Murphy is grateful for her very supportive artist family that cheers on new growth and exciting new mediums."

Today we are highlighting artist Emily Mayer!

"Reflections", Acrylic paint, magazine clippings and other mixed media, 16” x 20”, $75

"This piece was made in remembrance of September 11th. I combine painting, collage, and poetry to work through something that feels both far away and still very close. I paint in layers of color and texture, then add photographs, magazine clippings, origami, pressed flowers, shells, and stones — pieces of memory, news, and everyday objects gathered together. Butterflies, birds, and flowers show up throughout, alongside words I’ve written, because some things are easier to say in a poem than in an image. As a neurodivergent artist, I don’t separate the abstract from the real — for me they belong together, the same way grief and hope do. I hope this piece gives people a place to sit with what was lost, and also with what kept growing afterward."

Today we are highlighting this incredible work by artist Marc Mannheimer!

"Barclay & Church 12.04.01", Oil on canvas, 72” x24”, $25,000

"I was born in New York City and lived in lower Manhattan from 1969 till 1971 on Chambers Street, a few blocks north of the World Trade Center. A few times friends and would go to the bar at the top, Windows on The World, quite an experience. After the tragedy I wanted to do a painting about it. I went down to the City on December 1, 2001, to see the site. While waiting on the line to get to the viewing platform I saw this scene and realized it was what I would paint."
